HTC Evo Sound Quality - Page 4

If you are on Sprint, the Epic is a much better sounding phone than the EVO. Plus I used to work for Sprint and the EVO has some serious quality control issues. From spotting on the LCD, usb connector breaking apart from the mainboard, to horrendous battery life it is just not a good phone. If you are on Verizon the Droid X is a much better phone than the Incredible (which is a sibling of the EVO), and of course the iPhone4 which is coming early next year. T-Mobile I would definitely go for the Nexus S.

Seems like there have been improvement with HTC G2 (or Desire Z):

Comparisons with galaxy s and iphone 4 in there too.

Gingerbread Evo 4G headphone out --> Fiio e7 = happy camper. My other portable setup is a long-deactivated iPhone 3G --> LOD --> e7 (and it is collecting dust). Gingerbread offers solid battery life and welcomes third-party audio tools (e.g. multi-band equalization). The Evo's 3.5mm into the e7 is clean, not quite is loud as the iPhone + LOD. In my opinion, there is no noticeable fidelity reduction and the e7 has more than enough room to accommodate for slightly quieter input.

The best feature doesn't even lie within the hardware: Amazon Cloud Drive/Google music. Personally, I prefer Amazon's app as it doesn't compress your files and offers no-nonsense local downloading of your files. However, Google's UI is much better. I've not even bothered to upgrade my 8 GB microSD card.

1. Battery life is a little low, but you can easily manage with a few task killer apps and some underclocking lol. A 3rd party battery might not be bad either.

2. There is a tiny bit of hiss, but it's hardly a deal-breaker.

This thing has globs of bass. It's a stark difference between my Zune HD. I actually don't mind it's warmth, but some people might.

The hiss is actually pretty bad for me, compared to my ipod video and my iphone there is a significant amount of hiss on the EVO.  I wouldn't recommend it if you have low impedance/high sensitivity iems.
