@ flu_fighter  I'm curious about those Russian "grenades" and bypass caps. Details please.

They are K75-10 2.2uf 250v bypassed with 0.022uf FT1 Russian teflons

Verry nice combo.  Bet that sounds real nice with EE DAC.

They sound nice with the EE Minimax Dac, I chose them based on your reviews on the Orgy of Capacitors thread.

They do take a while to burn in though, was a bit hard sounding at the start, but it all smoothed out eventually.

Hey guys been awhile since I have been around what is the latest in tubes for the original Minimax what is everyone using Im still using a Mullard it's still going after almost a year of play so I thought it time to get a spare

I have two Psvane's that I do not use so if anyone want's them they can have both for 50.00 + the box they ahve like at tops 5 hours on one none on the other..

its been a while since I posted here. 

For those who haven't read my post just a quick up date:

When I first gor the EE mini max plus dac I was extremely disappointed because I had a Gigaworks Dac initially.  The SQ of the EE was too laid back and skeletal for the money however the detail retrieval was better with the EE.

Replacing the stock opamps to ADA 4627-1brz in all sockets improved the SQ.

I now have ADA 4610-2bz in the U1 and U2 slots and ADA 4627-1brz in U6 and U7.

Yesterday I met the legendary I'll Ceasar at SNA and spent the evening there with the EE mini max plus to A/B a NAD M51.  In the comparision I was surprised on how well the EE plus stacked up.  I'll Ceasar has had the Bifrost and Lamp L4 in is rig and has now settled for the NAD M51. 

The EE mini max plus did have a wide sound stage and a narrow smooth quality. 

The NAD M51 had a forward sound stage and a lot more grunt that was able to convey the sound signiture of instruments with better detail retreval.  Voices where more natural but less focus than the EE. I can live with both but the NAD M51 is more refined, has better inputs and has the latest  2.0 Audio grade USB, HDMI in/out and a 35bit potentiometer.  I am seriously thinking about getting it!

uelover's set and my set were modded by the same guy, just that we chose different caps.

I tried to capture a better photo of the clocks but realized that due to the tight spaces, I could not get a clear shot on how it is being installed.

Seems like the cap upgrade specs here are all over the place:  

Flu_Fighter's got 2.2uf 250v (bypassed with 0.022uf)  

uelover has 4.7uf 200v  

Levir has 3.3uf 400v

Turn&cough has 3.3uf (?v)  

is there a rationale for all these different numbers?  Are people using different values because of other things changed within the dac, or because of a difference of opinion as to what is required/optimal?  Or just cause that's what was lying around? 

I would have liked to use 3.3uf for the K75-10, but the length of the 3.3uf is 95mm, which is way too long to fit inside the dac.
 

Also they were pretty cheap to try out.

I was thinking of trying some new caps - either Sonicaps or Auracaps or possible those Russian ones...

In my case, the teflon bypass is to bring up the highs and lows in line with the more forceful mids of the K75-10 and also add more PRAT to the normally slower PIOs.

You can just try the K75-10 without the bypass and if it sounds alright to you, you can forget about bypassing.

The Mundorf's I'm using are 600V AC/1200V DC. I went with 3.3uF because that's what the original caps were plus I was able to pick them up used for less than half price. I would like to experiment with other values or silver/gold/oil but I would need to sell a kidney to do that.

I like the Duelund Cast Silver Foil
