Strictly piano I would suggest these

Mari Kodama has 3 really nice beethoven sonata cds and they are down loadable from hdtracks in high res 24/88.

I love http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clQM5k3hJX8, but it doesn't sound toooo nice on YouTube. Still a great song, though.

im not sure if you guys are for or against downloading free music, but anyway. I downloaded some Chopin and am disappointed in the quality. Love the music, but not the quality. Its in lossless format so i dont know why. Compared to my other music i have to really crank up the volume to hear any detail. Are there any torrents out there with really good quality?

Your other classical music? If it's quieter than, say, rock music, that's usually an indication of good quality.

Piracy discussion isn't allowed. The moderators have tolerated intelligent discussion of the effects and legality, but I don't think they'd like wide open illegal torrent requests.

oops sorry about that no torrent requests. hm like its overall much much quieter. i understand obviously that classical music is not as loud as rock. its more like the volume is turned down and i cant hear the details unless i listen really hard.

Roberto Cacciapaglia and Ludovico Einaudi are a couple of my favourite, though it isn't strictly piano. This is one of my top http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTkzyyv0DuA

Great thread as I'm trying to acquaint myself with more classical music as well! I somehow was lucky enough to stumble on this amazing movement:

Listen through to the end if you haven't heard it before. Amazingly when Beethoven composed this his hearing was most likely very poor but no doubt he did not need to hear it.

From the wiki page:

Maxim Gorky recorded that Vladimir Lenin once said:
"I know the Appassionata inside out and yet I am willing to listen to it every day. It is wonderful, ethereal music. On hearing it I proudly, maybe somewhat naively, think: See! people are able to produce such marvels!” He then winked and added sadly: "I’m often unable to listen to music, it gets on my nerves, I would like to stroke my fellow beings and whisper sweet nothings in their ears for being able to produce such beautiful things in spite of the abominable hell they are living in. However, today one shouldn’t caress anybody - for people will only bite off your hand; strike, without pity, although theoretically we are against any kind of violence. Umph, it is, in fact, an infernally difficult task!"

^That is quite a glowing review of music as it gets...

Unfortunately I cannot find a recording of this by Lisitsa! If anyone could direct me to where that could be had I would be extremely grateful.

I did find a rendition by Mari Kodama (from HD Tracks) which I have not really A/B'ed but sounds very similiar (to my ears )so I'm somewhat pleased.

Edit: Didn't notice Kodama listed in KingStyles post originally.
