Music that makes your heart soar :)

Can anyone recommend some music that just makes you forget everything but the music? I want to experience some new music. everything from pop to rock to rap to classical.

well..it's going to be a very long and messy thread if everyone will just throw all their music at you.

maybe you should specify a certain genre.  if you want general recommendations it will maybe be easier for you to just browse a little in this sub forum, there are a lot of threads discussing all kinds of music.

just my honest advice..don't mean to offend or something

well, you said piano..you said chopin my friend! i strongly recommend to get a cd collection of his piano works, there are a lot of those collections everywhere.  also, you can try his piano concerto no.1,my favourite.

rachmaninov piano concerto no.3 is also a must.

shoulmann piano concerto no.1

grieg piano concerto no, 1

this is just for the start, others will chime in i am sure.

I'm far from well-versed in classical, but I love Mozart's Piano Concerto no. 21.

there are a few brand names for quality recordings in classical,i am talking about the recordings (or distribution) companies.  look for  duetch gramophone (or just gramophon) and sony bmg.  can't recall at the moment but there are more like them.

just google it and you will find the info you need,or maybe the guys here can help too.

Joseph, I recently picked up Yuja Wang- Sonatas & Etudes on the Deutsche Grammophon label. Very nice recording. She is really excellent, playing Chopin, Scriabin, Liszt and Ligeti. And I think I'll put it on now since you've gotten me thinking about it!

She's a brilliant, brilliant pianist.  Her performance of the Prokofiev no.2 w/the San Francisco Symphony was breathtakingly stunning, she'll incidentally be a resident artist with the Symphony next year, I've heard.  Hands-down the rising star in classical piano.

I'll put that recording on my short list of albums to buy for sure! Thank you. I completely agree with you, she's nothing short of being an absolute phenom. So much passion, so powerful... I was literally in awe when I heard her.

Ooooh, I would also recommend Swan Lake since you mentioned Tchaikovski, Joseph. This was one of the first recordings which really grabbed me when I was exploring different genres years ago. And by no means am I an expert now, but I'm sure you'll like it. It always makes my heart sing :)
