Need help identifying some caps

post #1 of 6

Hey all. Recently three capacitors blew out on my video card at home. It doesn't look like there's any other damage, so I was thinking I would try just replacing the busted caps. If it doesn't work, I'm only out a few bucks. I'd rather try to repair the card instead of buying a new one since my family uses that computer and they don't really need a new card. I'm out of warranty too so the company won't repair it.

Here are some pictures

My guess is that they are 1500 uF and 1000uF respectively and 6.3V. I can't tell the type of cap they are though, if they're ceramic or film or whatever other kinds there are.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

the look is similar to united chemicon NPCAP series. But I don't see the united logo there, so it probably is not...

The dimensions of the larger one (1500) are 12mm tall, 9.5mm wide, with 5mm lead spacing.

The smaller one (1000) is 11mm tall, 8mm wide, with 4mm lead spacing.

I appreciate the help and I'll take a closer look at the links you guys have posted.

The Nichicon caps Mister X linked to should be fine for the job. The values are correct (1500uf 6.3V and 1000uf 6.3V).

Peete.

I went ahead and ordered these ones;

I did a search on the first one MisterX posted because it didn't have a picture, and I found the datasheet which said it was SMD instead of through-hole which is how it is on the video card.

The ones I found look like they will work though, and beyond the the SMD/TH thing they have the same specs and are made of the same stuff.

Thanks again for the help everyone
