You don't see me prancing about with ibuds and an ipod shuffle.

If you are on public transportation or anywhere in a busy bustling street, your SQ will go from beautiful to just decent doesn't matter what gear you have period. It will never sound as good as home so there is no point investing in something that will hit a brick wall really fast. There are no portables either iems are headphones that can drown out the outside completly and with that you get music that often sounds subpar. But hey if you are outside or around and about in places that are peaceful and quiet, by all means do whatever you are doing.

1) Sticky gunk? You should try using better strips of velcro. I have velcroed my Rx and T51 together multiple times for long lengths of time with one large strip (which would produce the most "sticky gunk" that you want to avoid and I have had no left over residue on either player or amp at all. You should try it before you bash it.

2) SQ from beautiful to decent? Maybe with full sized headphones or pads. When using my ER4Ss with foam tips I have been everywhere and the SQ drops.... NONE. If you stop the music you can slightly hear what's going on around you but if you have music playing at even a slightly moderate volume you won't be able to hear a thing. Don't just assume that since YOU get horrible isolation that there are no means of getting amazing sound outside.

Back when I had my UM3Xs, I used that with the Clip+ with me at school and would walk from the car, through the parking lot, through the loud cafeteria, and into the library while hearing every string of the violin playing with no drop in sound quality whatsoever. Comply tips are very good at isolation.

I did not like the sound from the ER4S although it is probably the best isolation I have ever experienced bar none. I'll give that to you. I couldn't hear a truck if its coming right at me. However I personally find very deep insertions quite annyoing after a while to keep on taking out and put back in when you are interrupted or talked to so I prefer not to use them.

Thus far the IEMS I've tried except the IE8/IE7 give decent isolation with deep inserts, however it is no comfortable for me and hell normal insert IEMS aren't comfortable for a lot of people. Don't assume everyone is you and can deep insert stuff down your ear canal. And thats where portable headphones kicks in and besides the HD25, every other portables I've used give very lackluster isolation performance on the streets or bus or school campus when thousands of things are going on. On the bus I can loose the bass almost entirely with my IE7/8 and only hear the mild thump with the ES7/HD25. I can hear the violins too. But can you hear the bass?

Yea I can definitely hear the bass. I mostly listen to soundtrack, acoustic, or classical music and the entire spectrum comes though clearly when using the Comply tips; granted I insert them backwards and/or cut off the tips so the treble isn't dampened but they offer great isolation.

PS: Oh and for the Etys, if you use the supplied foam tips you get better isolation and a very shallow insert that is better than the Comply's; sadly the comfort isn't all the way there.
