Since i'm bored i'll post a message that's probably pointless. I've owned my share of Bose stuff in my lifetime. Never once did I think "This is garbage". Ok, once. My first pair of headphones were those blue $149 Bose over the ear headphones. I remember actually loving the sound quality, but I didn't have anything to compare them to. I'm pretty positive they sounded like a $70 headphone. Don't hate me but I think I actually preferred them over my 555 that I later bought!
I also once was dumb enough to by a Bose Surround Sound system. Now I see those in the store for the $1000-$3500 price tag and it makes me cringe. Again, the sound never really bothered me. I later upgraded to all JBL speakers for half of what I paid.
I actually use some $99 Bose speakers in my bedroom for movies. It's just a thrown together system with no receiver or anything. I originally had them for desktop speakers. I wanted a 2.0 system only and everything from Creative and Logitech I heard sounded very bad. I did NOT want a subwoofer. Strangely I now use some cheap $30 JBL speakers to listen to beeps and bloops on my computer and they sound good. Even good enough for music sometimes, but sound a bit tinny. I heard the $250 PC speakers that they sell and thought they sounded horrible (but good in the store of course).
Anyway, I don't think Bose is evil. I guess I just don't trust them and their prices are too high obviously. Basically half of the actual retail price is what most of them should really be at, except for maybe their noise canceling headphones. Seems like you pay for the design, the marketing and the brand name. Nothing new here.
What's strange is that I often hear of these stories of people owning nothing but Bose from like the 70's! I wonder if they've tried anything else.
I once did buy a Bose center speaker though that was really tiny but long. I was actually laughing at how bad it was. Just pathetic and I immediately returned it. It wasn't even one of those "Acoustimass" things that are like small cubes.
