Seriously why so much hate on Bose? - Page 13

WOW..., getting touchy aren't we? We know you really love your Bose. I like their NC capabilities and comfort too. Bose aren't the most revealing, but still very revealing still. I've heard a lot of headphones within the price of a good QC and a lot of them top the QC (at least for me) in detail and dynamics.

Sorry, but I found Sennheisers to not be my flavor. Not even close. Neither are Bose.

I highly demand vocal emphasis. Audio Techs cover that. And from what I've heard, maybe even AUDEZE LCD 2

Same for Audio-Technica.  Going towards customers that aren't too discerning about audio and gaudiness really well to match their target market.

Not really.  I just substituted Audio-Technica for Bose in your argument.  Funny how doing this in any of these posts causes people to get very angry.

Maybe because people prefer the truth?  Maybe because if you change a few random words in an argument it is likely to stop making sense or being true?

I still like the Bose Triport OEs. Nothing anyone can say will change that. I've been through the mid-fi block and have had my feet wet on the high end. But I still love the Triports. They offer a combination of attributes that few cans can beat... the closest being the Denon NC732.  I love how portable they are, how they fold up into a little box that I can carry with me everywhere, I love their warm soothing bass, I love their spacious sound, I love their detachable single-entry cable, I love their incredible comfort.

My only beef with them is their styling, I don't really like silver on black, and build quality is rather iffy. I actually sold my Triports because of the build quality, they were starting to feel rickety and "not nice" anymore so I sold them to a friend who wanted them at half price. Other than that I had absolutely no problems with them, not in sound quality, no. Except maybe the price could be lower. But that holds true for any headphone over $100 for me.

Maybe someday, if I can find a specimen in good condition for a good price, I will repurchase them. At the moment my portable headphones are the MS300, the NC732 and the PX200-ii. The Bose still has a few things over them in some respects, though they beat the Bose in others. Other than the PX200-ii, these other cans are about as expensive as the Bose, if not more. And yet the build quality and other aspects aren't all that much better. I mean the MS300 has this really dinky cable that scares me everytime I tug it, I am afraid it will stop working anytime. The NC732's build quality is about as rickety as the Triport. So yeah, the hate is really unfounded IMO.

Since i'm bored i'll post a message that's probably pointless. I've owned my share of Bose stuff in my lifetime. Never once did I think "This is garbage". Ok, once. My first pair of headphones were those blue $149 Bose over the ear headphones. I remember actually loving the sound quality, but I didn't have anything to compare them to. I'm pretty positive they sounded like a $70 headphone. Don't hate me but I think I actually preferred them over my 555 that I later bought!

I also once was dumb enough to by a Bose Surround Sound system. Now I see those in the store for the $1000-$3500 price tag and it makes me cringe. Again, the sound never really bothered me. I later upgraded to all JBL speakers for half of what I paid.

I actually use some $99 Bose speakers in my bedroom for movies. It's just a thrown together system with no receiver or anything. I originally had them for desktop speakers. I wanted a 2.0 system only and everything from Creative and Logitech I heard sounded very bad. I did NOT want a subwoofer. Strangely I now use some cheap $30 JBL speakers to listen to beeps and bloops on my computer and they sound good. Even good enough for music sometimes, but sound a bit tinny. I heard the $250 PC speakers that they sell and thought they sounded horrible (but good in the store of course).

Anyway, I don't think Bose is evil. I guess I just don't trust them and their prices are too high obviously. Basically half of the actual retail price is what most of them should really be at, except for maybe their noise canceling headphones. Seems like you pay for the design, the marketing and the brand name. Nothing new here.

What's strange is that I often hear of these stories of people owning nothing but Bose from like the 70's! I wonder if they've tried anything else.

I once did buy a Bose center speaker though that was really tiny but long. I was actually laughing at how bad it was. Just pathetic and I immediately returned it. It wasn't even one of those "Acoustimass" things that are like small cubes.
