I got my SM3s yesterday, and although this may be hasty, I have to say that these are freaking awesome. The detail that these super light and small earphones can produce is simply amazing. I've heard some people say that the lows could be a bit better, but with the comply tips that I'm using it comes through really well and tight. I need to give these some more time before a more in depth review, but so far I'm really enjoying them.

congrats on getting them and liking them! I'm sure they sound great..now the best thing you do is to ignore all the hype of new products forever and never get another pair of phones unless you want some kind of backup phone in case something happens to them which I hope it doesnt.

Glad to hear you are enjoying them and you like the details , may i suggest you try duel or triple flange silicon tips , you will get much better treble & details and a deep thunderous bass when it is called for by the music , comply tips suck all the life and soul of of phones in my opinion

Actually I really liked the ES3X in many ways - they had superb clarity, tight bass, very smooth mids very well extended, smooth highs and excellent detail. In these areas, few other headphones I''ve heard can match them. But at the same time, I felt that the ES3X lacked dynamics, coherency and musicality. The bass was tight, but had little impact. The mids and highs were smooth and detailed, but to my ears they did not blend together well and the rather narrow dynamic range adds to the already boring sound. I thought I got a pretty good fit wit them as the isolation was very good and I also did the Sensaphonics seal test and it turned out fine.

Thanks, I'll definitely give these a try. Can you recommend a good brand of both dual and triple flange tips? The dual flange tips that came with the SM3 are good, but don't isolate well so the bass doesn't come through as good as I'd like.

SO ARE YOU ENJOYING THE SM3 ? , monster triple flange tips are good or the generic brand (fake) from ebay , some people like senorcorm tips ,check the SM3 thread ,joe lists lots of tips ,somewhere in the first 5 pages i think it was with pictures of them ,if you any tips from other phones you can always make a duel flange like i did ,you may need to decore a stock comply to use as a spacer for tips with a larger diameter

I've tried them all, for the most part, and I really like the modded Shure white triples (trim the stalk about half or even to the bottom flange). Great sound for me, better than the doubles (Shures with the small flange trimmed). But that's just one view. The monster triples are also good, but require the Comply cores to stay on.

I had a pair of extra triple flanges that came with some cheapo earphones I used to have and I tried them on yesterday. WOW! Everything is much crisper now with more detail across the entire range. Thanks for the suggestions to move away from the Complys. I wonder why they ship these with tips that take away from their sound?

My tips are bright yellow, but I'm in it for the sound not the fashion. Here's a pic taken with my iPhone:

Yes, those look similar to the Shure triples. Great news for you.

IMO, they are both good iems. It doesnt mean that sm3 is a better iem that u should upgrade it when you own a um3x already. It may be better yes, but at the pricetag u might reconsider it again. And consider placebo too.
