Most likely sonic. I don't have a problem with the vote though. It's his personal attacks.

And him in general......

I have not owned the UM3X, almost bought the JH13 and would like, when the time is right, to purchase an SM3, but I'm having trouble finding a decent outlet where I can get this item for less than MSRP.  If it's heads and shoulders above the UM3X, an earphone I have really enjoyed, I'll put it on my to-buy list.  If it's just marginally better, I'll hold out for the JH13 or JH16.

That said, I feel stupid buying IEMs when I can buy the drivers and make them myself.

Could you post a few pics of ones you've made?

BA drivers or dynamic? If BA how do you handle the cross-overs?

Manufacturers put many efforts to develop a certain sound signature and to reach a certain goal they have determined prior to the conception of the IEM. If creating an IEM was as easy as putting some drivers together, I think it would have been known for a long time. There is a whole science going on in IEM, i.e. choosing the right material, the right drivers, the right dampening material, the right electronics...

It may be fun trying to build your own IEM, but I really doubt one could make an IEM that would at least come close to the sound of an excellent manufactured IEM like the SM3.

Just...imo.

That is funny. He messaged me, as well, telling me to go with the UM3X, yadda, yadda... I was quite surprised, actually, since I didn't PM him first. Odd.

Hi guys!

How would you compare these to the RE0? The wiring on mine is flaking out so it's time to upgrade. ;)

I personally have no experience with the SM3 so I can't reply. However I am considering getting these and have read up on them.

if you have the money, you can always try them out, but really, you've gotten something already that is top tier within universal IEMs and if you already love what you have, I don't think there is a need to go further. Not applying the theory of 'wants' however. I'm sure we could all do with more, but just putting it out there that if ya happy with what you have, why don't you stick with it? :)

the only real big step next is to get customs in my opinion of course. then again, if I had spare money, I'd love to test more out, but since I'm tight, and for the above reasons, I really don't see a point. :)

is the sm3 still FAR from customs? or does it bring the line really close?

thanks for the consolation! :)

Personally, I prefer the sound of the SM3 to that of Westone ES3X customs.

You prefer a lot of things to that ES3X custom. I think you had a bad fit or something with them to have such negative thoughts on them.

According to the few who listened to both, the 440 euros SM3 + earmolds is superior to the 570 euros EM2-ifi of the same brand, and behind the EM2-pro except regarding soundstage / sense of air / imaging.
