Broken JBL Control 1 speakers worthwhile?

I'm going to be getting an amp in the near future so I'm thinking about something halfway decent to replace my Logitech Z3 2.1 system. The JBL Control 1 fit the specs for the amp so I looked around and I can get a pair of them that need to be re-foamed along with a re-foam kit for a pinch over $50 shipped. I've never re-foamed a speaker before but it looks pretty straightforward. At this price, would it be recommended? Would they be a significant step up from the Z3? I love bass but the Z3 leaves a lot to be desired. I currently sit about 4-5 feet from the speakers in the corner of a somewhat small room, would the JBL's be adequate for that? Thanks.

I'm thinking of going another route, would the JBL Control 1's be a good deal brand new at $65? How would they hold up to the infamous Insignias?
