I got a nice price on a used Moodlab Concept DAC from the for sale section here and I am wondering just how I am going to use it in my desktop set up.
I have a home made passive pre (basically a 3 input switch box) that I use to feed a BBS 482 which then goes to my Little Dot MKII then to my cans or my Audioengine A5 speakers.
Currently I have the following inputs:
Tascam CD450
PC out (from my Asus Xonar STX)
Vestax TT2000>NAD phono pre
The toslink out from my Xonar goes to the in of my Sony pro minidisc (model something 530... I forget) I use this for either capturing live mixes I do using Tractor or Scratch or just making high quality MD's for use in my portable MD.
So... I have 3 potential digital sources and 2 digital inputs in the DAC.
I originally was going to do the Tascam CD and Sony MD into the Dac, but I don't ever really listen back to the MD player, it is just a record deck these days.
So then I thought I would do the Tascam CD player and my Xonar STX to the DAC, but then I loose the digital out to my MD deck.
How much quality can I stand to gain using the toslink out of my Xonar to the dac instead of using it's own DAC and the trio of HDAMs I have installed in it(2 OPAearths and an an OPAmoon in i/v)??
I imagine I can juggle cables around when I need to send digital to my MD player, but I would rather not.
I think to start I will just leave the analog line outs from the Xonar on one input of my pre/switcher and the digital out of the Xonar to the DAC on another so I can A/B and see which sounds best,,,
any other opinions/suggestions?
