Recommend me something like....

Im always looking at discovering new music and most of what I enjoy isn't mainstream or at least doesn't start off mainstream! So it can be tricky finding things that tickle my musical palate.

Im looking for bands that are as amazing as:

Mumford and sons

Edward Sharpe and the magnetic zeros

the heavy

coldplay

muse

solid gold

The XX

thanks any input is well appreciated :)

Some of your stuff makes me shiver, but XX and Mumford (and to some extent Edward Sharpe, though he's a bit of a douche) make me excited.

Elvis Perkins in Dearland - Shampoo

Stornoway - Gondwanaland

The Twilight Sad - And She Would Darken The Memory

The Tallest Man On Earth - King of Spain

Basia Bulat - Gold Rush

Mariee Sioux - Wild Eyes

Frightened Rabbit - The Twist

Should get you on your way. I recommend checking out FatCat, 4AD (through the past twenty years or so), and Factory Records (now defunct) for a more dark sound in the vein of the XX.

[EDIT] I'll recommend too, pay attention to Pitchfork. They get a lot of flack but they're always reviewing and recommending relatively unheard of bands. Sure they can have some awful reviews and you don't have to go by everything they say (some of their 6's are great, some of their 9's are terrible), but they've exposed me to a lot of new music. To a lesser extent, Stereogum and Drowned in Sound are also breaking lots of artists.

if you like The XX, you'd probably dig Fever Ray.

and if you like coldplay, you'd probably like Elbow.  my favorite "dramatic" brit rockers.  fab.

Fever Ray's debut is one of my favorite albums ever, can't believe I managed to omit that.

It's also only $5 on Amazon MP3 today.

Hmm. I see Coldplay and Muse, so I'll raise you a Radiohead. And maybe a U2 too, if you're not afraid of going even more mainstream.

radiohead.

Radiohead is awesome!   I like fever ray kind of. The music is sweet, but the singer isn't doing it for me. The tallest man on earth is excellent... has a kind of a dylan vibe.  Im surprised Basia Bulat isn't more well known. It's amazing how much people's audio palate's are different.

Baumer

Fang Island.

Flying Lotus.

Jaguar Love.

Minus the Bear.

Mute Math.

Of Montreal.
