Software that records from soudcard

I am looking for software that records from the soundcard in my Win 7 64 bit notebook. I tried the built in soundrecorder. That did a horrible job. I did a google search and found some free and pay for software. I like free but I do not mind paying. Any suggestions?

Ahh, the infinitely annoying 'What-U-Hear' exclusion in laptops.  Yeah, you can't just take a stereo mix and record it, like you would be able to with most desktop sound cards.

 

What you CAN do for cheap is get a little 1/8" to 1/8" interconnect, and plug your headphone out into your mic in.  Disable all mic-boosting, and max out your headphone out, then record it with Audacity.
