Powered speakers w/o use of a DAC, under $200?

Hey all, my GF is looking to get a decent pair of speakers (she can't stand the laptop integrated after hearing my setup :)) but there's no room to budget for a DAC or amp. She does have my old amp, an OK Yamaha integrated with discrete outputs, but it's not all that great so I'd rather recommend her a pair of powered speakers. The AudioEngine A2 is the first thing I thought of and recommended but if anyone has any better suggestions I'd love to hear them. Thanks all.

Klipsch Promedia 2.1's are always a good recommendation, but shouldn't this be posted in a different forum?

Maybe this should be under Gear-Fi? This isn't the place for discussion posts.

heh, Banned apparently lol. Yes this is in the wrong section, but anyway, the M-Audio AV40 are probably the better pick, judging from what I have read about them.

Well I would go with swan d1080mkii 08. Its on sale at www.theaudioinsder.com for $169. If she can stretch her budget to $250 she might be able to find a used Udac for cheap.

Whoops IDK why I posted in this forum, sorry about that. Thanks for the heads up on the Sawn, bumbabeef, I didn't know they were that cheap.

My friend is buying speakers for hopefully under 100 or thereabouts.

Anyone have any thoughts between these three models?

Klipsch Promedia 2.1

Swans M10 or M12

one of the cheaper M-audio monitors like AV-40 or DX-4

I have heard the M-audio DX-4 and think it sounds pretty good, especially for the money.  It doesn't seem seriously flawed like most speakers at that price point, it sounds fairly natural.

The M-Audio AV-40 is very good for the money apparently, much better than the Promedia 2.1 I have read. Not sure abut the Swans though.
