SOLD
I have too many open headphones, so I'm considering selling these.
This is the first edition of the DT880. As Beyer says on their website: "1980: The DT 880 dynamic headphones with electrostatic performance becomes the classic of the headphones premium line".
They are in a great condition.
The original plug has been replaced by a nice Neutrik plug. The cable is coiled.
I put pieces of felt on the drivers instead of foam rings. But I include some new foam pieces to try out yourself.
The headband pad is new, bought from Thomann a few months ago. I'll include the original strap.

The ear pads are coming from a barely used DT880 '05 (which I NoXter modded into a closed back headphone with DT770 pads).
With these ear pads they sound as airy and detailed as their modern day 250 ohm brother.
The original pads are worn out and unusable. They will be included in the package.
These are not the DT880 Manufaktur 600 ohm, and you cannot expect them to perform likewise.
They are more in the DT880/250 (although more musical and coherent) and AKG K4xx/5xx league. No more, no less. A good headphone for the price.
They are way too revealing for low bit recorded music.
These DT880's need an amp. Not necessarily a headphone amp. Any decent integrated or pre amplifier will do.
They need good equipment and recordings in order to shine.
The fun part is, that with different earpads you will have a different sound.
For instance the DT770 velour pads will give more body/ weight to the sound, and lots more bass and impact. They will loose some airiness though, and can become a bit boomy.
Beyer and German Maestro leather and pleather pads do also fit, and will alter the sound.
You can also try different materials in front of the drivers, like felt.
So you can do a lot to make them sound to your likings.
