I just bought a refurbished 4th gen ipod from ecost.com with the intention of going down the imod route (as soon as my bank account recharges
). I received the unit pretty quickly and when I opened the box, it came with pretty much everything I was expecting. However, when I turned the ipod over to look at the back all I saw was a plain mirror...there was no apple engraved nor lettering of any kind!
Now some people may prefer this look, but I suddenly had a sinking feeling that I was swindled somehow.
I have yet to put the unit through it's paces to see if it even works like an ipod (still charging the battery at this point) so I'm still holding out hope.
Is it common practice for the back plates of refurb ipods to be replaced with generics? Anyone have any idea who does the refurbishing for ecost (or do they do it themselves)? I'm wondering what other parts were replaced...
I don't have any electronics fixing experience, so I don't really want to open up the unit to find out what's in there.
(When I did a search on the forum for ecost, the threads only deepened my fears. I'm hoping someone has had good mileage with a similar ecost refurb to put my fears to rest.)
