Red Dead Redemption

Anyone else playing this game? It's like GTA IV with an old west theme. I've been alternating between missions, and going postal on everyone in town. With three other roommates, it's hard to find a few minutes to play.

I started playing it last night and gotta say I'm enjoying it so far.

I am definitely enjoying the game. I have only played the single player so far. I have been doing the side missions and playing way too much poker. I will eventually continue the main storyline.

I just got it but haven´t opened it yet. As always I pick the wrong version. Now I picked the PS 3 which is technically inferior in every way to the Xbox 360 version. I should be able to switch for the 360 version though or at least return it since it´s not open. But it means I can´t play until next week :(.

I didn´t like GTA IV at all. Last GTA I really enjoyed was GTA 3: Miami Vice. However I do enjoy western a lot so it was kind of a non brainer.

I just picked my copy up last night and hope to play it thoroughly this weekend...should be fun!  I really enjoy the narrative that Rockstar games have so I have a lot of faith in the game.  I just hope it doesn't get overly repetitive like GTAIV was.

I'm not a big fan of sandbox games but I'm hoping that Red Dead Redemption will turn that around.  I got this game this week, but I've been busy and have played only an hour of it.  About 30 minutes in campaign and 30 minutes online with a couple friends who are also very new to the game.

Freeroam, on paper, looks good, but is flawed because the nature of Xbox Live.  Even with two other people in my posse, I'd get shot by some dickhead within 30 seconds of respawning.  Finally, when the three of us were finally riding together to another town to complete a challenge, my screen suddenly went to a loading screen and kicked me out of the posse and then didn't allow me to rejoin.  Then when I was in the menus, I got shot in the face.

Then my posse and I played some deathmatch.  The cover system in this game is okay but the root of that problems is that the controls just aren't tight, but maybe I'm just spoiled from MW2 and the Halo: Reach Beta.  Yeah, it's probably not fair to compare a 3rd Person Sandbox game to a FPS, but I paid the same amount of money for all three games (well, I got $20 amazon credit for all three games so I guess I can't complain too much).  Either way, I'm excited for Green Day Rockband and angry that I can't play the demo because my rockband stuff is waiting for me 400 miles away at home.

Yeah, I am and I'm really enjoying it so far. It took longer than I'd like for it to get going but once it did, it's actually quite enjoyable.

I would get it if they made a good transfer onto the ps3. I don't get why they would do that, you'd think if you were trying to capital on a product you'd give the best availability..

I've only heard good things about this game so far. A PC port/transfer/version/whatever may come out later on down the road, because it was originally slated to be that way: 360, PS3, and PC.

Hopefully it'll come out a year or so from now, kind of like what Rockstar did to bring GTA3 to the PC.

This is what I'm waiting for, provided it's not as terrible a one as GTA IV.

Oh God, don't remind me. It was the first GTA game I actually paid for (full price too!), and I still can't play it to this day. I'm waiting to get a quad (Q9550) this summer before I start to take it seriously. Such a horrible port, but believe it or not, the Saints Row 2 port is way worse.

Exactly my sentiments as well.

I've been following RDR for a while, will pick it up sometime next week.

My problem with it isn't running it (you really need a quad, once you have one it runs easy regardless of GPU). Or the quality of the gameplay, which is a little dull compared to previous GTAs but still good. My problem is the complete lack of AA and AF, including the inability to force it on. My other problem is the fact that Rockstar, in their infinite wisdom, decided that VRAM is the only aspect of a system that matters, and have thus locked the maximum image quality obtainable to that number. With a hack I can get past that and push "1500" MB onto my 1GB card and still run the game over 40fps average with little stutter, but the hack is a pain to use and the game gets some fugly anomalies happening when over 1GB VRAM. It doesn't even look good. Just a poorly optimized game.

I like Saints Row 2, but agree it's not the best port. Also poorly optimized, but at least it lets me crank the settings if I have the extra frames.
