Ahh I'm in the same dilemma so what did you end up buying? The forte or ST/STX?

Just compare the features of the cards you are interested in and go from there.

Alright well I'll check back, You think you can post up on how you like it? I want to get the ST too because I doubt I'll have enough money to shell out for a separate DAC, cables, amp, etc...

Alright so been home for 3 days and doing a decent amount of listening.  And I have to say, I really figured the built in amp on the xonar would be able to push these cans (600ohm DT880s), but they definitely arent getting enough power to shine in my opinion.

Have my system volume and foobar volume max, and I would say the volume im getting is right around the middle of my listening range, i would definitely have them a good bit louder though generally.

the sound quality is quite amazing though.  Im not really into the whole vocabulary and specifics of it, but compared to listening on my adamo or ipod, it's quite a drastic improvement.

probably going to get the darkvoice 336se and roll a couple sets of tubes after some research, then get out of this hobby while my wallet still loves me lol

Haha finally checking back okay thanks! I think I'll run a cheap DAC with a little dot amp Thanks!

Hope you've been well.

The card has a gain setting (0 dB, +12 dB, or +18 dB) that controls the maximum output voltage. Did you try increasing it ?
