Newbie wants to learn how to play 5-string acoustic bass guitar

hi all,

 

i haven't played any instrument in my life, so i said to myself it's time to change that. i always liked the sound of the acoustic bass guitar, so that's my first choice, although there is no one giving lessons on this instrument in my area. but i wasn't keen to attend lessons anyway. is there some instructions DVD that would help me with basics? what 5-string guitar should i get within $500? this is all new to me so i will welcome any suggestions

they play almost the same as an electric 4-string, and it is easy to find lessons and instructional videos to play that instrument. 

 

the fifth string just increases your range, there is no different technique to it - dont worry about finding teachers or learning materials specific to 5-string

thanks, that's good news. 

 

i was just watching a video on Youtube. i understand most acoustic bass guitars are also electric. is he playing unplugged? anyone knows what guitar is that? it sounds awesome
