Recabling my headphones - advice needed

I have a Denon D1001 and they are my only full-sized headphones. They sound good but the cable is coiled to hell and will not stay straight.

http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/353941/recabling-denon-ah-d1001-d1000

I found an excellent thread on recabling them (above) but will be adapting, because of what I prefer and because I'm in the UK (availability/shipping). I hope also to do the Markl mod at the same time. It's my very first mod and first time using a soldering iron since high school (only 3 years ago).  So I have quite a few questions (some are simplistic and I apologise for that, I just want to make sure).

This is my list (because I would prefer to buy from one retailer and pay internantional shipping once)

My list:

- 2m Canare L-4E6S Star Quad (http://www.qables.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=575)

- 1m 1/4" Reflex Black Techflex (http://www.qables.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=540)

- 6.5mm Black Y-Splitter (http://www.qables.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=522)

- 0.5m 1/8" Neon Blue Techflex (http://www.qables.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=414)

- 0.5m 1/8" Neon Red Techflex(http://www.qables.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=414)

- 0.2m Dual Wall Heatshrink (http://www.qables.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=367)

I'll buy a 3.5mm jack from a UK retailer

I'm not sure if/about:

1) The cable is suitable

2) The cable's original diameter and that of the interior cables.

3) Whether the whole combination will work

4) Which wire goes where - the colour combination.

Any advice would be great.

Thank you.

I left mines uncovered, but yes, you can cover them up with nylon multifilament if you want. Measured with a caliper, the thickness of one of the cable above the y split is about 1.1 mm, so get something that is slightly bigger than 1.1mm.

Superglue and the y-split cover from Qables can strengthen it... I did a half assed job with heatshrink, and it doesn't look appealing but it works well. I did a recable on my KSC75, but I left the outer cover and the copper shielding off, and left it naturally twisted, and it looks very nice. I prefer it to what I did in that thread, which looks extremely similar to mines.

Thanks ShinyFalcon.

I've had a quick look...

Updated original thread.
