Should I upgrade my s638?

I have a Sony s638  and was wondering if there is any point in upgrading it to sony x or s9.Whats the difference in SQ?Probably x and s9 have better SQ but is it worth the extra money?Or I just need to focus on getting some nice pair of IEM?

Welcome to Head-Fi and sorry for your wallet...

What is the audio related problem?

If you are just curious for a step up in a DAPs you have plenty of options depending on what you want.

(It is not clear enough whether your Sony S638 is bugging you with something and you need a better solution for that or you are just curious...)

What kind of headphone do you use with the sony?

Thanks for the warm welcome,

To the point.I'm happy with my current s638.I was just wondering will I find any large difference in sq or just "meh".I don't have tight budget but I'm kinda stingy at times...but if you guys tell me to buy some new DAP I will trust you.As for headphones I'm currently using some cheap model of sennheiser(PMX60) and consider changing them with head-direct re0,shure se530 or ety er4s.I'm setting my mind with re0 because I would like some balanced IEM.

The real question for me is should I go with new DAP AND headphones or just headphones(keep in mind that I'm stingy).

I have the RE0, they sound phenomenal with Sony DAPs.  I have similar model as yours in addition to a X series.  If you put price in the fore front, I would not recommend upgrading to x series as there is no significan't upgrade in sound.  Something I've noticed is that it has wider sound stage, but bass is toned down a bit.  I think RE0 is much more of a significan't upgrade.

I have the RE0 and a S739. If you need more capacity in your DAP then by all means upgrade, but if you want an upgrade based on sound quality your money is probably much better spent on a new pair of earphones. It's true that the RE0 sound better with a different source (they sound incredible out of my uDAC for instance) but for the price of a new DAP you could get a substantially better pair of earphones :)

Any examples? From this thread " http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/405947/re0-rivals-er-4s-beats-e500-and-er-4p#post_5364625 " its shown that re0 kinda rivals se530.Maybe I should go for ue triple.fi10?Anyways,headphones are for different topic. Thanks for the tips guys and sorry if I have some grammar mistakes.

I suspect if the sony would be able to drive re0. My sony A726 drives 16ohm senn. cx300ii to reasonably loud levels but 150 ohm re0 would be too much for it. Should S639 be way louder than A726, go for the re0.

Aren't they 64ohm not 150?Thats kinda frustrating though...my current headphones are 16ohm and the volume level is set to 28-30(30 is the cap).
