So I end up with buying HD558 to get a more real music.

To my experience the MX980 is overhyped, its bass performance can't match a hi-end headphone.

BTW, inspired by this thread, I use earpad foams to enhance the bass of MX365, it really helps, the improved sound is comparable to full-size headphones.

Not one Audiophile here will judge you for this...nodda one :)

Well, since music listening is something very subjective, my feeling about MX980 might not apply to others.

No, pretty much everyone agrees with you and its a solid fact, lol.  The $200 MX980 is smashed by the $25 Hisound iphone4 IEM and other cheap full size sets like the $25 JVC Has700 or HARXseries.   Its no reason to bash them by saying its overhyped, thats the equivalent of saying this tricycle is overhyped because its not as good sounding as a Corvette.

Well, since I finally got one used pair, I have plenty of chances to listen to them carefully.

MX980 is actually very resolving and the bass quite strong, for earbuds.

But they don't have sound stages like full-size headphones do.

Anyway, for such a second hand price I am content with them, and I can say they are the best sounding earbuds I've ever heard.

I'm using mine regulary at my work office

and I think they are really good sounding for an earbud.

Very clear and transparent sound. Their bass performance is very fit dependant though.

They can also handle some additional bass EQing without distorting if you don't go too loud.

Being an earbud those are best fitted for calm environments.
