stax lambda + srd 7 - good deal or not?

I haven't been around here much over the last year or so, and have kinda lost touch on what is value or not.

I've been offered a set of Stax lambda (original, not nova etc) and an SRD7 energiser. The guy is looking for €200 for them - thats about $250 or so. He says condition is very good, earpads and foam liners are good and no channel imbalance. I haven't actually gone to see them yet.....

So is that a reasonable price or way over the top? For example could I get a set for similar or less from a trusted head-fier? They are local to me, so its pretty convenient in that theres no shipping or anything involved.

Yes, its the original SRD7 I believe. This is the energiser that you connect to a power amp, so its the older type. That also means that its the "normal" bias type lambdas too.

So the consensus seems to be its a deal worth going for (so far anyway).

Anything else I should watch out for if/when I go see them?

Well I've made contact with the seller - hopefully it will happen in the next few days. I'm kind of excited about this now!! I have an older stax set here, they are the SR40 and I think an SRD4 energiser. They do sound very clean and open, but are bit bass light. Also a bit of "2 ears" and nothing in between. Impressive though for their time and their age too.

No negative comments at all so far!!

Well guys I picked them up this evening and have them playing right now as I type!! A little bit of a smell of smoke and slightly dirty, slight bit of wear on the pads, but the foam is intact and good. And most importantly, they sound very good :)

I'm used to electrostatics on my main rig (quads) and yes, these have the same kind of immediacy. I'm using a nice little audio innovations amp to drive them, think 12AX7>>EL84 sound.
