I too, would love to see an unexpected and rewarding pay-off from low sensitivity cans in the next round from HiFiMan...

I'm sort of wincing as i say this, but... I am hoping for the same! It would be the perfect excuse for me to build a First Watt F5t

I was fortunate to have sat down with the HE-6 for a few months (on loan). I had an opportunity to hear the HD800 and LCD-2 about the same time period. It was the magic in the middle that got me to pursue their eventual purchase. But it was their underdog status that got me to pull out my credit card.

I'm kinda enjoying having cans that everyone else doesn't or no longer own or afraid :veryevil: to try! Is it Halloween yet?!

I would blow your baseball cap off...very linear down to 20Hz with a slight roll off but better than anything at the time.....

Well, the Dodgers had a better season than I anticipated.

Got me too excited seeing those beauties again. Would love to hear the Scintillas with a pair of modern mono block power amplifiers such as the Analog Domain.

They have really good soundstage, image & depth. I used to listen to LA4 vinyls. Killed one of these monos.

'Anyway, it makes perfect sense why the HE-6 requires such a powerful amp since gold is such a dense metal. It would be difficult for the magnets to "pull/push" the membrane quickly. At least I think that's how an ortho works.'.

Followed by the remark hoping for less sensitivity and hence even more strenuous amping requirements.  But perhaps I misinterpret.  Don't understand why one would actually want a headphone that requires even more power to be driven correctly (makes me think of people actually wanting to buy a gas-guzzler) but that's just me.  Anyway, wouldn't suit me, I like to have my setup on a desk and don't want to fiddle around between my DAC/headphone amp and a speaker amp, just too much hassle.

Well buddy, I guess the HE-6 is not for you.  Some of us like that so called hassle.  Also some of us would like more of that hassle.  It's a very fun ride.

Thanks for the opinion but I think I'll decide for myself what's for me. I actually own the HE-6 and drive it just fine from my desktop amp/dac (V800/V200).  Like it a lot too, better than  the HD-800 in fact  although for certain more intimate musical styles I feel it's bested by the HE-500 which is a whole lot easier to drive and cheaper to boot.  I do think its insensitivity is an objective drawback and -ymmv- I don't want the hassle of fiddling between my dac/amp and certainly don't want to put a speaker amp up there in the hypothesis that an even more insensitive headphone were to come out.  But to each their own, my 2 cents is that such an insensitive can won't happen, it would have limited appeal and for any company the bottom line is what counts.

FYI, I will never attempt to make any decisions for you or anyone else.  I said - "I guess".  Obviously you are the minority here.  The insensitivity is not an objective drawback, that's just your subjective opinion nothing more nothing less.  Again, you don't want the hassle, that's just fine and dandy for you.  Many of us here do and will welcome a less sensitive headphone to the fold.

The HE-500s are a very good headphone, I like them a lot as well.  Not more that the HE-5LEs though, and certainly not more that the HE-6.  However, if I were to own two, it would the the HE-500 and the HE-6 or the HE-500 and the HE-5LEs.  The HE-500 have a different voicing compared to the other two.  The draw back to the HE-500 IMO is it does not scale.  Where the other two gets better and better as the quality and power of the amp increases.
