HifiMAN HE-6 Planar Magnetic Headphone - Page 643

Silent notes made audible... and visible.

It's over! I'm gonna have to use this cable with the HD650 as well!

The new Wireworld Silver Eclipse 7 Headphone cable finally dropped today. But I waited this long to hear it, so I decided to wait until a few hours after dinner. First 20 minutes were spent warming up my ears with the stock cable going into the HE-Adapter and out to speaker taps.

Just routed the WW pigtails straight to speaker taps. Well, I'll be John Brown! (1800-1859)

Still to come, more defining notes but wowza, this cable expresses quite nicely. Despite being fronted by an iPod, I'm proud of the Sansui G-22000 Pure Power DC Stereo receiver as well.

Very nice! All you gotta do is come to Coronado meet with that cable so I can try

Ha ha! It ain't purfect, perhaps a bit stiff (severely understated) and w-a-y too early but a fun fun adventure. Can't wait till I replace the iPod with my music server. Cable aside, I'm really diggin' my Sansui  - now hearing it on a completely different level!

I'll keep an eye on Coronado!

What's more, tonight I discovered just how handicapped both the HPO on the G-22000 is, as well as the HE-Adapter. Speaker taps & pigtails is like:

1. Cleaning :wink:the big picture window in the front of the living room

2. Straight :veryevil: kickin' the front door down... can you see me now?!

Hehe yes indeed! I was amazed by the difference going direct to speaker taps too, so I got my HE-6 hardwired at the cups, and strictly banana plugs as the termination of choice. I might even take those off and go direct wire! :veryevil:

Direct? my pigtail termination is naked. Or nearly so, only clothed by Silver soldered tips, no plugs or spades.

Now it is time for me to thank the 'Treacherous Two' (preproman & Happy Camper). Thanks for keeping me intrigued enough, long enough, to get this far into my personal HE-6 adventure. Despite frequent wavering, you two kept me coming back to this thread staying the course and being patient.

No doubt, fellow members wotts and a few others are due credit as well. But no one was as evil as you two!

Can you show a pic of what yours looks like? Yeah I'm thinking about taking the bananas off, which means the only solder point would be the in the cups. I don't have any connectors on the headphone side. I might even go so far as just bypassing the binding posts and hardwiring it to my First Watt F5 altogether! Hmm...

Question for you fraternity guys - can any of you comment on the bass of these beauties vs say a Denon D7000 (in other words a dynamic driver)?  I'm trying to get a sense of the real capabilities of a planar headphone with regards to bass and seems the HE-6 is THE best.

I'm headed out to lunch but when I return late this afternoon, I'll offer a brief comment on the HE-6 and D7000 heard on my Pioneer SX-D7000 iron...

The bass on the D7000 is a real "fun" type of bass - lots of bloom.  But it bleeds into the mids and it's not accurate .  But like again it's fun as all get out.  The D7000 is sort of a "U" shape headphone the treble and the Bass is what you hear the most.  Lost of sub bass rumble.

The HE-6 has that reference style type of bass.  Hits hard, very tight accurate and is in line with the rest of the FR.  No bass bloom, nor does it bleed in the mids. I love the Planar Bass and mids.  Some better than others but Hifi man seems to get it right.

This is how I hear it - so it's all IMO..
