Go to try the HE-6 on the NFB-27's headphone amp and I must admit - probably for the first time - I'm liking it as much (if not more) as the SA-31 with this particular headphone.

That's a bit strange considering the SA-31 smoothes the sound a bit and the 5LE seems to like it a lot. The HE-6 is certainly more organic than the 5LEs so it doesn't benefit from the added harmonics of the SA amp as much as the 5LEs.

Treble was still annoying sometimes (Janis Joplin's voice - my benchmark - has an etch to it) but certainly not worse than the SA-31.

This problem could be due to the USB-32 input, I'm waiting for the Ciunas Converter to confirm or disconfirm.

From my experience with the Ref 5.32, if the NFB-27 is too bright with the HE-6, the Reference 10.32 should be perfect for me (but less dynamic and detailed.. cruel world :o)

I certainly don't have the dough for that now, I'm moving to the US next month and with no credit score, I will need to live off of my savings for quite a while...

By the time, the PCM1704UK DACs will be discontinued

I got the hiss in my Krell to go away. I can finally use it with more potential. I'm in a very very happy place right now.

Nope, 4 x PCM1704UK DAC section (like the Ref 5.32) but same output stage / amplifier.

They wouldn't be discontinued. Pcm1704uk is a current production chip.

It just that the price will be higher. Happened a few times in the past.

so excited to join this club!!!!

:D

Keeping both the HE-6 and the HE-500?  You could make a case for it, both are voiced different enough to keep.

i'll see.

i hope HE-6 isn't bright, thats my only worry, and that it might still be good for vocals and have that airy smoothness to it that the HE-500 has.

cause HE-500 is best headphone for electronic music i've heard so far.

I'm kinda worried you won't get all the goodness the HE-6 has to offer out the GS-X mk2.  We'll see though...

how close is it u think?

or whats difference vs. the GSX MK2 with HE-6 vs. the first watt amp thing u use? is it like the GSX MK2 is still not optimal? or just preference, or whats the sound like? i thought the GSX MK2 drives the HE-6 at its best, even better than what my other amp option was at first (RSA Darkstar).

Don't worry too much about it. On the grand scale of things the First Watt might not be optimal compared to some Gryphon/Einstein/Moon/Jeff Rowland/-insert high end speaker amps' name here-.

Also it's a good excuse to acquire some vintage receiver and bookshelf speaker to go with the He-6
