I see, the m1 is also the source. Sorry

Depends on the quality of the preamp.  DAC volume control is generally not great in my experience.  The Placette Active helped take the etch off of the First Watt J2+HE6.

I agree. Actually, if it is the m1 music server, the manual recommends using the fixed outputs to the aux input with an integrated amp. So I guess they are saying to bypass the volume.

What part of MD are you in.  The CAF is at the end of July in Silver Spring MD.  A few of us Head Fi'ers will be there.

hey there all,

Was wondering how well the WA6SE would power the HE 6?  Good enough to justify getting them and upgrading amps later?

When I tried this at home - powering the HE-6 with my WooAudio WA 6 Special Edition - I nearly called "911" as my amp was eek.gifchoking! The presentation was so-so but wasn't something I'd look forward to hearing night in/out.

The HiFiMan's were on loan, so there was no rush to a solution. But a year later and now I am armed with two big vintage receivers:

Sansui G-22000

Pioneer SX-D7000

I was taught to max out the vol on the gears higher up the chain...n control final vol on the amp at the end.

The 6SE will not power the he6. The HE6 needs  power the more it gets the better it will sound.
