That was my original intent. Until I bought the Sansui G-22000 just before ordering from Jack. We reached specs on my WA5 and everything.rolleyes.gif

I would still consider the WA5 because of the 300B direct heated tubes. They are a special tube and the EML are really nice tubes. The reputation these tubes have is well deserved. I also like the 2A3 tube and will probably buy the Dared 2A3 speaker amp for my second room.

Silent, you padding your post count? tongue.gif

And you don't have faith in our commentary? I guess Frank's charm just has a way about it.......wink.gif

Frank, give them a couple days to get set and then put on a live SACD. It's marvelous........ But I'd love to hear that WYWH. I had DSoTM gold disc from MobFi and someone lifted it at a meet. It was a great test disc and a great pressing (sigh).

Padding post counts? On what day?! blink.gif I don't even count tubes. What wink_face.gif I do count is two things:

1. I log hours inside the listening room. Some here think it a bit strange. rolleyes.gif

2. You and preproman to keep me straight. wink.gif

The commentary each of you have provided raised my level of interest in the cans. Remember, I've had them a couple of months at a time... twice. But my gears keep changing and so does my opinion. If I get the WA5, I wanna see some love, baby!

I am listening to Hugh Masekela which has live tracks on it and its sound good already. i know it will get better as they burn in also but I hear a difference today and I guess the amp is also burning in witht he EML tubes. I only have the amp for about 10 days now.  The Masekela album Hope is terrific.

Jack and I finally reached an agreement on WA5 monos and how spce'd just before the weekend. And then eek.gif... I saw a new posting go up for an extremely rare vintage amp on Craigslist. So new, I was logged on already looking at Ads and BAM! It came out of nowhere. I contacted the seller before he could even re-positionevil_smiley.gif his mouse.

And so there went the WooAudio purchase. rolleyes.gif

I think the HE-6 has one foot in the door (later this summer). Still up in the air on those WA5 monos, WA5 single or something else I've got up my sleeve.

The HE6 and the WA5 may be as good as it get without buying a Stax 009 with the Blue Hawaii. The dynamics are explosive. I am hearing everything I heard the first time I owned the he6 and more with the WA5 over my vintage Pioneer SX980.  I cant wait till this all burns in a few weeks but I love what i am hearing and they only arrived yesterday. (HE6)

WOW Frank.  I may look into the Oppo.  So I can get some of that pure SACD experience.  Glad your liking that Combo..  Can't wait to read the review..

Turn it down a little there pup ;)  The WA5 is a competent, old school design but a world beater it is not.  Unless it's a review unit, I'm surprised you didn't get the new EC 2A3 which at its asking price is a world beater.  I'm happy your enjoying it though.

I disagree worth you. The WA5 is the best tube amp I have heard with headphones.L3000.gif I believe the WA5 is way more than competent and is a true reference headphone. In 36 years of toying with owning tube amplifiers . The best tube amplifiers are the old world designs. I like the build on the Woo amps much better than the build on the EC amps. If you want the 2A3 then thats what you should go for.  I know what I am hearing with this WA5 and its that good. Sorry but I think you may be suffering from high end withdrawal.  wink_face.gif

If the. For a guy who owns neither you sure have strong opinions about gear you never owned or heard and declaring one product better than the other with out hearing either makes your opinion a non factor here.L3000.gif  OH yeah I forgot you buying the lCD3 which you were trashing a few week agoconfused_face_2.gif

Frank, if you have the time to, find a Simaudio dealer and put the 6 on their top end amps. That I600 has been the most impressed I've been with a headphone. Sure, it costs more than the amps you are discussing but for the experience, it's worth the effort to take the cans down and try it. Without hearing the 009s, I feel the 6s would rival them. Of course this is my speculation and opinion only.

Careful with the Oppo. It's a great all around player for the price, but I wouldn't consider it high end by any means. Used as a transport only, it's terrible (comparing to my VRDS 25). Typical Saber ES9018 sound. Kind of expensive just for the SACD experience. I guess it would depend on how many SACD's you have.
