Frrom my experience DAC and amp go 50-50 in hand in terms of performance.
A better DACs clearing up the sound a bit and amp balancing out the tonality and stage...
With the HE-6 though at the moment I might even lean slightly to amp>DAC in terms of importance...
Both are essential obviously

I e-mailed my Dad to see what he has. I'll keep you guys posted!

In terms of further investments, I'd definitely like to see what works before I delve in. I think it would be alot of fun to go to a meet with the HE-6's around my neck and see what brings out the magic. :)

Schiit recently came out with an Uber analog upgrade for the bifrost, but I'm not even really sure what it would do...

Summary: They need some power to make that staging sound right.
You don't think the Emotiva mini-X has enough power for the HE-6?

Better than most all headphone amps but decent speaker amps are better IMO.

What about the SA-300 mk3 that's be re-issued recently? It's a fully balanced SA power amp.

With 250W @ 8ohms, it could make wonders with the HE-6 (like the SA-31 does wonder with all the other Hifimans).

The 150W static power consumption is not so nice though :D

I have the C10 atm (amp before the master series)and it does provide a significant improved over the Mini, naely the bass and staging as well as more refinement in the other frequencies smily_headphones1.gif

My dad sent me some shallow details regarding what he recalls he has: "4 - mono channel amps (300 watts/channel), 2 - 2 channel stereo amplifiers (100 watts/channel), 1 - Audio/Video Receiver with 5 channel amplifiers at 200 watts/ch."

I'm not so savvy with the speaker amp setups, not even sure if these would work... Seems like that's a lot of watts. Guess I'll wait til he has more details.

biggrin.gif Who doesn't like a good mystery? Interesting, vaed... I'm staying tuned in.

The mono and stereo amps will be more than sufficient. Looks like you've got some nice toys to play with coming up.

Honestly, vaed might pair the HE-6 with the vintage iron at home and be pleasantly surprised. Or so wink.gif smitten that a family member has to bring dinner to his room.

Those 100watters should be a good place to start. I'd agree with the 300 w units being too much. If you have the adapter though, they are an option.

300 watt monos... too very_evil_smiley.gif much? Like money, one needn't use all of it - sometimes a little will do. But, it's certainly nice having around. rolleyes.gif biggrin.gif

The watts pumping through those blocks might be of high quality. In this case, it's better to use the good stuff and simply restrict (resist?) what comes through.

Although people said it was too much as well, I am using a 250 w power amplifier and can go to 12 - 20/60 on the preamplifier, depnding on the input,song,game,movie,...

So I do think HE-6 can work with 300 w monoblocks with a preamp in between easily :D Although there might be less headroom, obviously :P

My only wish right now is affordability. Can't wait to bring those cans home... iPod tongue_smile.gifor no!
