Haha, I didn't spend that much. Granted I've wasted a lot on shipping back and forth gear, but DACs deathmatch, tiring as they are, is fun and nice experience. It's a pity I'll miss the London meet though. My only remaining desire in this hobby are: comparing 007mk1 vs mk2 vs mk3; demoing EC ZDSE; 2A3, Balancing Act and maybe the DNA Stratus - and last time I read the London meet thread, there'll be a 007mk1 there.

How did the dampening affect the sound though? I took off the grills once, and to me grill or grill-less doesn't make much difference in sound. I'm not brave/curious enough to mess with the damping cloth though.

anything to say on the Mini-X a-100 vs TP-60?

Umm the Topping (and most overbuilt tripath amp) sounds better than the Emotiva wink.gif. Not really worth it to sell one for another though, unless you really want to stick with budget solution for a long time.

Meanwhile, good guy seller - quote 3-5d shipping, ships next day instead bigsmile_face.gif

Still need to wait for a preamp since my Lampizator doesn't have the volume control option. Main question now is active preamp or passive. I also caved in and order a vintage receiver too (Kenwood KA 9100 - top of the line of Kenwood back in the 70s I believe) cool.gif

First impression with my crappy backup audio gd dac with variable output is the thing got a nice soundstage and nice mid, pretty much characteristic of a SET amp that I've missed. I haven't tried the ultralinear mode yet, but from my experience with other speaker amp with both pentode/triode mode, I never touch the pentode mode.

The second revision of the Nfb 12, some call it the 12.1 (current version is called nfb 15.32).

The emotiva is more musical overall. The TP60 is more neutral and detailed. Not that big of a difference with either one. Much more of the sound will come from your DAC with the HE-6.

A teaser! The linestage can't arrive fast enough. Still sounds decent on the budget audio gd even though dynamic really takes a hit. I can't wait till I can connect to the Lampi very_evil_smiley.gif

Hi!

Quick question....has anybody tried the HE-6's with the Rega Brio amp?  I like the look of the amp and I wondered about the sound off the speaker taps.

Dacs does change the sound of the he-6 a great deal. I've listened to them on quiet a few, and they can go from warm to neutral to bright using the same amplifier. But when you get into serious amping(I'm talking quality not amount of watts) the changes with those are even more with any dac I've heard them on. One thing they have in common with the hd800 is that both the dac and amp are extremely crucial. That can be said with many headphones, but it's more true with those two more than any headphone I've encountered outside of stax.

I've just recently acquired a PS Audio HCA-2 power amp for demo and they're working wonders with HE-6. Give HE6 some juice and it sings!~

May I present to you, the He-6 "amp"-off

The puny Topping Tp60 vs Copland 505 (4x Svetlana 6550C Winged + Chinese 12AX7 + 12AU7) driven by a custom-made passive preamp vs Kenwood Ka 9100 fully restored.

All fed by a Lampizator hiding somewhere down the table bigsmile_face.gif
