I am looking into getting one of these -the Warpspeed LDR passive preamp- because I have too much gain on my amp even with the input control at the first notch of the stepped attenuator.

The basic config is quite reasonable, cheaper than the Goldpoint for a similar setup: and supposedly sounds way better if one believes the impressions on the different forums.

Uses the Khozmo attenuator which has quality control problems and is prone to failure.

Yeah, I looked at Axiom so it was a toss up between this and the Warpspeed. The new technology LDR won over the resistors; no mechanical contact vs mechanical for the volume control. Though cannot make up my mind whether I should go for a new USB DAC with volume control like the Lynx Hilo/ Exasound or the alternate Concero+ the Warpspeed. My 20 year old Wadia transport and DAC still reigns supreme for Red Book for me.

Yeah. Warpspeed was also offered as a kit till recently, not anymore. Other do offer kits but I believe only Warpspeed offers a balanced version and super fine tuning of the gain and some other advanced features that nobody else offers.And even tho I have not committed to a buy Allan is a real pleasure to work with and has answered upmteen questions that I had concerns about.
