HifiMAN HE-6 Planar Magnetic Headphone - Page 492

Hi, recently, i use the audio gd reference10(all in one,DAC+SS AMP) with Denon D7100. The treble is too bright and sharp for me. Therefore i plan to sell D7100 and build another combination.

Here's two ways to solve now.

1, keep the reference10 and go for LCD3  (Is LCD3 hard to drive as He6)?

2, Change reference10 to reference7 and go for EF6+HE6

Which way is more valuable ?

The LCD-3 isn't as hard to drive as the HE-6.

The Reference 10 *should* be powerful enough to drive the HE-6, but as far as I can tell nobody here has tried this pairing (I looked because I'm after a solution like the Reference 10 to drive my HE-6).

I don't think reference10 can drive he6, people even use their speaker pre-amp to drive he6.

In balanced mode the Reference 10 puts out 6W into 50ohm, slightly more than the amp HiFiMan made specifically to drive the HE-6. So from that point of view it *should* be able to drive it, as I said --> note the emphasis on the *should*, since nobody seems to have tried it.

Without a doubt. The lcd3 is an incredible headphone and I enjoy it very much albeit its slight treble shelf. The lcd2 however doesn't agree with me. It lacks the resolution and imaging/staging of the lcd3, and to me is too dark sounding and punchy for my tastes.

Why go for the EF-6 with the HE-6 if using an Audio-gd Dac?

The Audio-gd Master-6/8 is perfectly cabalble of driving the HE-6's extremely well and with better synergy with the Audio-gd Dac (especially via ACSS) and 40% more power than the EF6.

A no brainer to me unless you particularly want a softer and more laid back less neutral sound.

Power wise I agree...synergistically speaking is another story. The LCD-3s are a tough nut to crack in that regard. They're not as easy to "properly" drive as the LCD-2s.

Don't worry, I was referring to the Bifrost and, Asgard and Lyr.   Only you're ears will confirm with the Mjolinir/LCD-3 combo is right for you. If not, then I can not more highly recommend the LF w/ a quad of Siemens tubes.

The Stratus looks like a keeper! If I go back to tube amps (gonna stay ss for a while), its on my short list of dynamic tube amps!

Agreed, the Sonnet would be a great Grado headphone amp, but not ideal for orthos. The Stratus looks like it hits all the notes. Hoping to hear one sooner than later.
