Be careful when getting your loved ones into your hobby... my significant other "stole" my HE-6 while I was at work. She's listening to them tonight (on the amp I bought her no less!) and won't give 'em up.

Order another pair!
Just don't give here what I just got. A friend took mercy on me and sent a 1 tb hard drive with lossless files of 2300 albums, over 32,000 songs of all genres. If she get a hold of that forget it. . .

So far, the LCD2 is in no danger (natural highs, believable mids and 3D imaging). Reminded me of my brief listen to a Jade electrostat vs the O2Mk1.
I surely hope burn-in will help. First impressions only.
Need a Melbourne meet to make sure my pair is not a dud.
Happy to lend an ear.

I am not familiar with the amp. Not enough power, no, you said they don't work from the output. Why wouldn't they work?post #729 of 888911/11/10 at 5:33pm- Maxvla

Very initial impressions...
As a long time HD580/600 user, all I wanted was that but better, and indeed this is exactly what I expected. The HE-6 is like taking a HD600, making it extremely clear, fast, and bumping the bass quantity and quality slightly. Soundstage is similar but slightly bigger than the HD600. The sound signature is virtually identical, unlike some phones when you change from say a K701 to a HD650, singers sound like they are entirely different people. The HE-6 is what I expected the HD800 to be and was very disappointed when I didn't find it to be true.
I'll be listening to these all night and updating impressions.
Using them with my Little Dot MKVI balanced tube amp with live concert level sound at 12 o'clock on the dial. This amp has a high and low gain setting and this is on low, so there is ample reserve. This amp seems to be an excellent match. Will try my speaker amp once the impedance box is released.
Perhaps this is a bit premature, but we might be seeing a split in listeners similar to the HD600 and HD650 with the HE-6 and LCD-2, respectively. The HD600 and HE-6 on the brighter, more neutral side, the HD650 and LCD-2 on the darker, richer, bassier side.

That seems strange to me. The Leben puts out a lot of juice via the headphone output at the impedance of the HE-6. And i had no problem driving the initial HE-6 prototype from the Leben's headphone outpost #731 of 888911/11/10 at 6:07pm- MuppetFace

Also way better IMO, tighter, more balanced, no mid-bass hump or warm lower mids like HD 800 so far.But I'm still in the first two listening hours. And I tested first of all only on Phonitor which is not the best amp for headphones with low impedance.
I will continue testing on the balanced outputs of the powerful C.E.C. HD53N.
Errr, that statement bothers me a little as I found it was the smooth and warm mids in the HD800 that was very pleasant - this quality existed with greater superiority in every orthodynamic I have heard and yet you claim otherwise...does it have a "cooler" midrange more akin to the K701 than the HD800?
post #734 of 888911/11/10 at 7:22pmI received HE-6 yesterday and heard for about 2 hours using the recabled cable for my HE-5.
(There's something wrong with the stock cable or I may have made some mistakes in connection. I'll try again with the stock cable later).
It's so great for now and I expect some burn-in will make it sound better.
I wonder if my Melos Sha Gold is not enough to power the HE-6.
Is there anyone who knows the output power of Melos Sha Gold?
