I'm thinkng of buying the HE-6, but they are really difficult to amp. I was just wondering, and forgive me if this is a stupid question, but can a guitar amp drive it? I'm not sure if guitar amps are even supposed to drive anything, but since I already own one, is it possible that it could drive the HE-6? 

guitar amps are MONO, so you will require 2 of them to drive the HE6 , if you really want to drive them via a guitar amp.

 

its better to buy a good stereo speaker amplifier , My Alesis RA does a good job, it has been reported emotiva amps also are great with it too.

You can even go to your local strore and get a demo with the HE6.

 

afterall you are spending 1300 on HP its only logical to spend atleast 200 for the amp.

That said, I'd personally go with a good vintage speaker amp like the Pioneer's from the 1970s and be done with it.

I heard that the Hifiman EF-6 was created with the HE-6 in mind, s is it a good choice, or should I just go for a cheaper speaker amp? Also, will a speaker amp work with a laptop? Do they have a built in DAC or will I need a seperate one?

There is no doubt that the HE-6s can sound very nice from even the Schiit Lyr. Just that they really get better with a good clean speaker amp.

 

You'll need a DAC between the speaker amp and your PC.

This is about the best advice you can get.  This is if you already have the HE-6s.

Good question.

Any country that parties as hard as these guys do has to have audio stores. And to make mention, the 6s has to have the speaker tap adapter to use a speaker amp. I know it seems common sense but it has to be stated.

Conventional thinking would have you believe this. But perhaps he lives in a more limited city, ya never know.

 

Can this somehow just become common knowledge...

Get the Trends TA-10.2SE speaker amp.  It's about $240, has a volume knob, and drives the HE-6 very well.

I forget who here tried the HE-6 with lcd-3 pads? I have some on the way but am curious to get a preview impression by someone.
 

No, I live in Rio de Janeiro, and so far, the only thing they sell here is beats. However, I'm going to New York in November. 

 

If anyone knows of a place in NYC where I could try out the HE=6, please let me know.
