Very nice job - what wire did you use on the HE-6?

Mine has finally arrived some 6 weeks after being posted...  Nice step up in transparency and fidelity across the board for classical music vs LCD-2, terrible for heavy metal though so the LCD-2 will definitely stay.  Just waiting for EF-6 now...

Gear mentioned in this thread:

How is the new one holding up?

From the very begining my only beef with the HE-6 was the sibilance on female vocals.

Tried various headphone amps, dacs, interconnects, headphone cables, even my 100wpc speaker amp, all in vain.

Then one day I get the EAR HP-4 headphone amp, essentially, for Grados and just like that there is no sibilance on the HE-6!!!

The treble also has a little less energy and overall a match made in heaven!!

I would wholeheartedly recommend the EAR HP-4.

Robert I believe used the same wire as in his Zeus, which I believe is the WireWorld Eclipsce.

There is no unwanted sibilance with the HE-6 on my vintage Marantz 2285, either.  Or, for that matter, my Decware Mini-Torii.

Seems fine but I haven't had it that long

You are correct Steve. He uses the Wireworld "flat" OCC copper wired which is the same internal wire in the Eclipse 6 interconnects.

The difference was very clear to me and a no brainer.

Thanks!

More control in and tightening of the bass is just what I was hoping for

- and also what I was expecting after I found out what a loose contact on the speaker tabs was doing to the bass of my HE-6 confused_face.gif

Got any idea where someone can get a hold of this wire?  I might want to make my own if it is really that good.

Maybe I have the wrong link but I pulled up interconnects.  I checked their bulk cables and didn't see any Wireworld included in the bulk.  I did a Google search and only found 1 vendor that sold the bulk interconnect version but that was $125 per meter so for a 2 meter cable just the wire would be $500.(I assumed since it is in bulk, it is a a single run so you would need 2 meters for each channel).

When you look at Robert's price, the baseline 2.0 meter for the HiFiMan products starts at $299 for a 6 foot single ended one, with the extra cost only $21 per foot.  Seems better to buy a finished product than buy the bulk wire.  Not being a DIY, maybe there is a better place to purchase the bulk wire.  For my HE6s, I actually went with the 22 awg instead of the 24 awg as I felt the extra guage would help with such power hungry headphones.

Oops! Sorry 'bout that. That's not a bad price ($299/ft for 6ft & $21/ft for extra). They must be flexible for a 22awg.

I don't think Wireworld sells just the internal wires as bulk to the public. You best option is just like Steve described. Contact Robert and buy direct from him. IMO the prices are very reasonable compared to their performance against cables like the DHC Complement which I used to own.

I have quite the dilemma right now as I don't know if I should get a shielded cable or not.  I like how the stock cable is so nice and light, but it seems like it would experience crosstalk.  I don't think I have experienced this before.  How is that supposed to sound?

I haven't purchased single ended cables but both of my balance Zeus cables, each channel is totally separate.  There would be no cross talk as they don't ever touch.  Each cable is finished in the soft nylon techflex as standard.
