sounds like a plan. I was going to start with the Master 9 and then begin the search for something beefier.

P.S. Ignore the wallet, it has a poor attitude when it comes to these things.

If the Master 9 is "Just for the HE-6"  Go straight to the Master 10..  If you want it for a variety of headphones - then yes the Master 9 is a good choice..

If you have a the funds, dive right into speaker amps! And if you don't mind single ended then maybe a Precision 2?

@preproman@ohhgourami
Thanks for the advice! The Master 9 is for my TH900 + HE-6 and possibly a HD800 (depending on how my second audition goes). I will have to save up for the speaker amp so the Master 9 will have to do until then.

Btw Prep, those pics should be classified as NSFW! wink.gifbeerchug.gif

^Not safe for work (and I agree IMO).  Maybe the hardwired HE-6 is getting him hard?

What's the HE6-X?

I'm listening to the HE-6 more than the SR-009 lately. It has more body and soul and I love the vegan pad + no grill mod. The HE-6 no longer sounds compacted or "stuffy". It's airy and open now whilst retaining the meat. Looking to add some OCC copper cables for moar bass and warmth and I'm done (apart from Fuzor mods which frankly is too time-consuming for my schedule)....

The highs of the 009 are cleaner and more natural though.

I'd really like to hear about this. There aren't too many Code-X out in the wild.

A bit of heat shrink usually does the trick. Some hot glue is actually pretty decent as well. The trick is to taper the strain relief, otherwise the spot where the strain relief ends is where all the stress concentrates. I've also made strain reliefs from the springs of old click pens.

I think he means fully modded HE-6.  Hardwired, regrilled, fuzzor mod, jerg pads or vegan pads.

Prep, what pads do you have on the HE-6 in the photo?  Their angled so Audeze vegan?

The Code-X side by side with the HE6-X.....

Make sure you put Cayenne Pepper on mines!

Been following JKenny's work the last few years but never heard any of his Batt wonders! Can't wait for the "X" Showdown...

And count me among the hardwired HE-6 (Aprhodite Cu29) owners. :D

@preproman so do you have an adapter that connects xlr to banana plugs or similar?
So I'll try a run at this again.

HE-6 with very open grill, no cotton and either hybrid Velour-topped Denon pads or Focus pads, fed by my Pioneer Spec system. Unreal sound.

Hooked up the HiFiMan speaker tap box.........and I can't really tell any difference vs headphone out.

Anyone else have the same experience?

I'm tempted to try and buy a straight out of the speaker taps adapter but gun shy from blowing the first driver on day two of ownership.

Is the sound lacking? Do I really feel it needs more? NO........but you know how it is. I'm thinking how much better it might get fed naked.

Anyone ever bypassed the resistors in the HFM box? A cheap way to get the direct injection effect.........

Oh, and thanks to you all for getting me hooked on the HFM sound. I also love my hE-400........
