If the Master 9 is "Just for the HE-6" Go straight to the Master 10.. If you want it for a variety of headphones - then yes the Master 9 is a good choice..
If you have a the funds, dive right into speaker amps! And if you don't mind single ended then maybe a Precision 2?
AJ - you already have a very capable DAC - all you need is the HE-6 (fully modded) and a good speak amp - of your choice.. Be prepared to compare the HE6-X to the 009s .. What a battle. I know from first hand experience the 009s will win in treble clarity (Maybe) it's amazing what that headphone can do with the top end of the spectrum. - but nothing else..
What's the HE6-X?
I'm listening to the HE-6 more than the SR-009 lately. It has more body and soul and I love the vegan pad + no grill mod. The HE-6 no longer sounds compacted or "stuffy". It's airy and open now whilst retaining the meat. Looking to add some OCC copper cables for moar bass and warmth and I'm done (apart from Fuzor mods which frankly is too time-consuming for my schedule)....
The highs of the 009 are cleaner and more natural though.
I'd really like to hear about this. There aren't too many Code-X out in the wild.
A bit of heat shrink usually does the trick. Some hot glue is actually pretty decent as well. The trick is to taper the strain relief, otherwise the spot where the strain relief ends is where all the stress concentrates. I've also made strain reliefs from the springs of old click pens.
I think he means fully modded HE-6. Hardwired, regrilled, fuzzor mod, jerg pads or vegan pads.
Prep, what pads do you have on the HE-6 in the photo? Their angled so Audeze vegan?
those are the stock Denon pads. They are as of now replaced. FocusPads or the Vegan pads..
I'm coming from a JKenny Ciunas converter. The problem is - I also introduced the some Cabledyne Silver Reference interconnects as well. So I have no idea what is producing the new level of clarity. In time I will A/B the JKenny and the Alpha. But right now. I have bigger fish to fry.
The Code-X side by side with the HE6-X.....
Make sure you put Cayenne Pepper on mines!
Been following JKenny's work the last few years but never heard any of his Batt wonders! Can't wait for the "X" Showdown...
And count me among the hardwired HE-6 (Aprhodite Cu29) owners.
