HifiMAN HE-6 Planar Magnetic Headphone - Page 927

post #13891 of 14883

Just got my setup up running last week.

Squeezebox Server -> Squeezebox Touch -> Musical Fidelity M1DAC-A -> Bryston BHA-1 -> Bryston 4B-ST

I did not realize how underwhelming the BHA-1 was until I got my speaker tap cables from BTG.  Electronic music just seemed too soft and distant compared to being hooked up to the speaker amp.

For those with WA-6SE amps, skip the HE-6.  The HE-500s sound way better on the WA-6SE than the HE-6.  The HE-6 deserves more.

FYI, I found my original test sheet for the amp.  It clips at 300W and 301W at 8 ohms for each channel.  I am just using 10 ohm Mills resistors in parallel for each channel.

The BHA-1 with the 4B-ST, I am only using no more than 1/12 of the dial.  I am glad the BHA-1 does not have audio taper but a very gradual increase in volume in the first quarter turn.

Just got an HE-6 with vegan pads, hardwired cable, and felt mod.   This is the first time I ever heard it.   I am using it with a Master 9.

After months of reading posts on the debate of the HE-6 being bright, thin, etc. or not;-    my ears detect none of those issues.  This headphone is so so smooth and full sounding.  Not bright in the least bit.   This may be the most neutral headphone I have heard to date.  It has all the smoothness of the Audeze phones without the muddiness.  I am very impressed.

slip the grills off and see if you like the more open presentation. It's easy and can be replaced if you don't like it.

How do I do that?  Are there instructions with pics to explain somewhere?   I am not very technical minded.

Do try the grill mod. I think it's worth trying out the HE-6 in stock form to see how big of a difference mods have made.

Got my replacement in today after a two week odyssey and delays and it's time to start the mod journey. Got the new 560 pads on the way.........step one, then the grill removal.
