HifiMAN HE-6 Planar Magnetic Headphone - Page 922

Has someone tested the new HE560 pads on the HE6?
I'm wondering if they improve the sound quality. Comfort for sure.

:( Sorry you had to endure this experience. Can't wait for them to reach the west coast and gently placed on your porch handed to you with a letter of apology enclosed.

Summer already called to apologize, explaining that Lu was a new employee..................yet when I asked her what would she do to solve the problem, she had no reply.  Wow.  Either they are not empowered to make decisions to delight customers or just don't know how to.  Either way.

Anyone compare these to the 560 yet?

DG did over in the 560 thread I think.

I wonder if that impression by DG was through the same amp in both cans.

Is there someone who I could get to do the grill and cable mods? I'm not so good with my hands and I'm likely to glue my face to my ankle.

Yes, they are different, but also some similarities. HE6 has more meat on the bone, while the 009 has got more of that airy stat resolution. Both are great :-)

I live with both the HE-6 and SR-009 so I have compared the two on almost a daily basis.

The HE-6 sounds similar to the SR-009 on my amp (with Woo WEE energizer added on to drive the SR-009). I would say the HE-6 is a more closed-in and "punchy" version of the SR-009, but I actually think there is more bass and mid-low range meat in the SR-009. The SR-009 has very noticably better treble at the top end (more "air"), considerably better resolution and soundstaging, a touch more realism and is far more comfortable. I think one of the failings of the HE-6 is its soundstage and closed-in nature and the biggest failing is comfort. But it is excellent in every other way and exceeds the SR-009 when it comes to pure punch and visceral impact (think war scenes and big drums).

In fact, I think I might be nitpicking here. Still, the SR-009 is the better of the two (as expected) and nowadays I use the HD800 for classical and SR-009 for the rest. My main gripes with the HE-6 are its lack of soundstage and lack of comfort.

Hooked it up to my Pioneer SX1050 receiver via the HiFiMan speaker tap box, played about three songs, adjusting tone a bit, playing with the mute switch, turning it up a bit, sounding good................and then dzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.  Dead left driver.  What?

What to do?  Contact HiFiMan in NY (Head Direct) in the morning I suppose and send in for repair/replacement?  Any keys I need to know?

i blew a driver about 8 months ago.

raised volumes on speaker amp, the HE-6 can't get as loud as HE-500 could.

It was a comment you made a few months back about the HE-6 bass being the best you'd heard that made my decision to try them. Thank you.

I'm awaiting my replacement to arrive and then I start modding. Are yours stock?

Hi All, I should be adopting a pair soon and I'm going to try to power them with a speaker amp. I'm worried about blowing the drivers. How can I avoid that? I plan to use the HP on my amp as well as out of the taps with the HE-adapter. Thanks

Make sure your preamp is at zero volume. Then switch on DAC - Premamp - Power amp , (in that order). If possible plug your phones in after everything is switched on . Increase volume slowly.

When switching off, do everything in reverse order. i.e.  Zero Volume (if possible unplug HP's) - Power amp off - Preamp off- DAC off.

My chain will be DAC -> speaker amp -> adapter/HP out, So zero the amp first then switch on DAC, then plug in HE-6, then turn up volume on amp?

That's right. What amp are you using ?
