HifiMAN HE-6 Planar Magnetic Headphone - Page 886

FWIW the cable from wuwhere is the same that came with mine (so not totally wrapped with black insulation).

BTW:  what amp is that?

It could be the same cable but the insulation is black. After some time, the copper turns slightly green (copper chloride) and can be seen through the clear insulation. Some people complained but it should not cause any problem.

That's a Baby Sophia tube amp. That's an old picture. I don't use that amp anymore. I use a Copland CTA 504 tube speaker amp now, 55wpc. I also use an Audio Research D70 tube amp, 60wpc.

+1 on the HM5 pads.
I have also tried the LCD-2 leather, both stock, and pleather Denon pads.
The HM5 sound best to my ears clean highs like the fabric and deep clean bass and lower mids. They are also super soft so they seal well.

are the hm5's a tight fit. If so then I imagine the shure 1540 pads to fit even better.

I tried the shure pleather pads as well. They are extremely similar to the stock pleather. As far as "fit" they are all quite similar. The HM5 just don't have as much stuffing and a softer pleather.

The shure Alacantra 1540 pads are different from all other pads they have made thus far and are easily the most comfortable pads of all the hp pads I have tried except the x1. They aren't velour and they aren't leather or pleather but feel more like a suede kinda like velour.

Y'all should just wait for the new official HFM pads.

I'd probably end up still using the vegans on the HE-6 successor. tongue.gif

The difference is that these are damped a lot more on the inner enclosure than any Audeze earpads, so if the HE-6 successor will be tuned based on these pads (I assume they will), vegans will mess up the tuning.

True I just hope they're affordable and that I don't have to turn the stitching different ways to match them

Apparently the reasons why the stitching don't line up for the preorder HE560s is because they had a last-minute tweak to the earpad prototyping, so there was only 1 injection mold for the pleather surrounds of the pads (instead of 2 mirrored molds). I too hope they sort it out in the near future, it doesn't impact the sound or comfort/fit, but visually it can be off-putting not to have the symmetry there.

The slightly embarrassing thing is this last-minute change to the pads might be my fault. We'll see.

Oh yeah, it's you're fault all right.  Thanks for the improvements, you'll get credit for that too.

Jerg,

I'm a little confused here. Are you implying that the new pads will be on all HFM headphones as opposed to just the 560 (and the 400i)?

Thanks

The thing is I don't know if it's something I suggested or something they decided to change by their own accord. All I suggested was that in the long run, they could experiment more with slightly thinner pads which may give a warmer / more engaging quality to the sound.

AFAIK it'll be sold separately at a reasonable price, not sure if it'll be on older HFMs that are sold after HE560s all get shipped though.
