In that case (be still my heart) does an amp like the Mjolnir due justice to the HE 6?

The F1J does the job for sure, no doubt.  However, I'm now getting the upgrade bug.

BTW - Don't let Happy Camper fool you - Those Rotel Monos does the job really well.  Better than lots of amps we had in house to compare them to.  Beat out all the Emo's we had - mini-X, UPS-2, and UPA-1 monos.  The Rotels are an audio deal.

The only problem is, we went to the audio store and got the hear the Sim Audio: MOON 600i  Blew every thing out the water we had or heard.

I'm now looking at the Pas Labs XA-30.5

The Mjolnir was to bright and the bass was to thin.

Cool Guru.

It's an integrated amp correct?  I was looking at this - sounds really good with speakers:  http://www.odysseyaudio.com/products-cyclops.html

Are you going to bring it the the CAF?

Prep, admit it, you're soon gonna be short a kidney and up one 600i :p  Didn't Reno have a deal on a pre-owned 30.5?

Naw - those MOON products are to high for me.

Mark has a great deal on the 30.5 and the XP-10 (preamp) for $6.5K .  The only problem is I can get this http://www.odysseyaudio.com/products-stratos-stereo.html and this http://www.odysseyaudio.com/products-candela.html for much less.

Decisions decisions decisions

Back to the monos for a second. I'd need a preamplifier to use them, correct? Also, what is your preference: the Rotel monos, or a Krell S-300i integrated amp?

The Krell would be my choice.  Real nice all in one solution (amp + volume control).  It's looks the part as well.

I'm going to look into that myself.

How is the 30.5 better or different than your F1J?

Don't know - it would be a blind buy.  I'm also considering the Krell S-550i

What areas are you looking for improvement in you setup Darryl? I've found the sound of my setup changes dramatically with different DACs. What I find myself drawn to is a more flesh on bone, yet detailed and 3D sound.

Thanks Darryl, yes they are integrated and my hopes are high with this amp, even though I have not auditioned them, all review suggest it has forward presentation with great resolving power across the board and not tube-like. I like solid-state more than warm tube sound.

Thanks to @ohhgourami and Al, for their suggestions. Will get them to CAF for sure.

Well the F1J is really a good amp and all I need TBH.  It's transparent maybe to transparent to a fault, as some people may call it flat.  So you're correct, the DAC plays a major role with this amp.

I'm liking the idea of an integrated amp.  I much prefer the volume control be in the amp opposed to the DAC - no rhyme or technical reason that's just me.  sort of like headphone amps the volume control is always on the amp.  That allows my DAC to stay full blast - or in bypass mode.  That's even if the DAC has a volume control.  So the integrated becomes more usable with different DACs that has no volume control like the Master 7.

I can add a preamp.  Then we're talking about more components.  When I can get a good integrated for less than a good separate amp and preamp.

The Sim Audio MOON 600i really got me liking the idea of integrated amps.  It was just so smooth / effortless and hugh sounding, the sound-stage was massive and imaging was pinpoint.  At $8000, It just cost to much damn money.

So the Krell S-550i ($3500) can be had for half the price of the XA-30.5 / XP-10 makes it a bargain so to speak, while staying at that level of performance.

The cons of a powerful amp such as this would be not playing well with other headphones like the F1J is so good at doing.

Good to know you found one! Sorry to keep you waiting but Benchmark just won't release their damn amp!

Not a problem, hope you get Benchmark soon and let us know how it scales with Krell.

If the Benchmark doesn't please then the only logical step would be a Krell FPB.
