Well, I have very limited experience with the Vega, auditioned it while on holiday in Japan but fwiw, of the DAC's which I tried I liked it best, to me it sounded better than the vastly more expensive TotalDAC D1 The store also carried the entire MSB diamond range with their various stacks/options but given their price point and the rate of change/depreciation in dac-technology I passed, perhaps a pity. But based on that very limited audition I wouldn't say the Vega is too cold/analytical.
That being said, I've come to realise that there's no such thing as a perfect solution for me: depending on my mood /music I listen to I prefer either a neutral rendition (say, 75% of the time) or something slightly more lush/warm. Have come to realise that 1 setup leads to frustration as I'm never totally happy so for the neutral side I stick with ss gear and -just imo which is worth as much as anyone's- I feel that if any colouring is desired in general one should aim to attain it via a judicious choice of headphones and perhaps eq but keeping the rest of the chain as neutral as possible, don't believe in coloured dacs/amps for that.
For the warmer experience I think more and more that nothing beats tubes and if there's anything on my short term purchase list then it might be a tube dac or a tube amp that has the juice to take my 6 to the max. Currently mainly listen to my souped-up DV-337 with the HE-500 for that aspect and with the right tubes it's heaven. But unfortunately it lacks the juice to properly power the HE-6. When I get back to Europe next summer I'll look into a Leben amp.
