Hello the lampi we heard has been sent back Poland. As when they listened to it they agreed it was off.
My lampi is coming along but not ready as yet.

I understand the PSU thing not being able to keep up with the current output given the bal mode should output twice the voltage.
But I think if true it's more about amp output topology something I know little about.

Not a typo that I've been able to determine. It comes down to current capacity. The balanced output doesn't have the capability to drive the HE-6. Odd topology, from our perspective, but if you are driving high impedance cans that are efficient it woks out

Thanks for taking the time to share . As I am both a LISC electrical contractor and electrical PE none really helps me understand the aMp topology unless it is explained then I can follow . But your explanation makes good sense . As it has the voltage and ohms law explains this , but ad the imp drops the current goes up and this is where it falls arPart. And I am not saying it's not a great amp .

Nope, their site is correct. Despite outputing more power into a SE connection, I have thusfar always preferred the 6 out of the balanced out from the Taurus. From what I have seen probably slightly more than half of us with the 6 and the Taurus prefer it from balanced out, with the remainder preferring SE out.

Regarding balanced Vs single - I'm not a huge believer in lots of the purported benefits of going balanced either, but it does (generally) double power output into each channel which is important with something like the 6. It's not clear that it doubles output from the Vega however, with it doing 4Vrms out of both balanced and SE by Auralics specs, I'm wondering though whether it is 4Vrms per channel in balanced, which may help things here.

The thing that is disturbing me here is that I have heard my 6 from the Vega/Taurus pairing a few times and loved how it sounded, on each of those other occasions the Vega was connected to the Taurus by XLRs though. Part of me is wondering whether my 6 were damaged on the return leg of my recent trip to Melbourne, but given they were in a Pelican case that seems unlikely.

In any case, I will try with the PWD2 later today and I'm getting some balanced cables tomorrow to try that.

Are you using XLR's?

I think balanced drops the noise floor, exposing more signal.

I've read this comment before...  Interesting.  I don't suppose you have an oscilloscope you could hook up and do some voltage measurements for us, do you?

I don't, mores the pity. I'd really like to know this too.

With the difference by design between SE and balanced outputs, and also the non-linearity of the power outputs in each of the respective modes, it seems a lot of thought has gone into how the Taurus powers different loads. Since Auralic acknowledge that tuning for planars was a specific focus in the MKII Vs the MKI, I would not be surprised to see a bump in power output into around 50ohms being the input impedance of both the HE-6 and the also the LCD-3.

EDIT: Just noticed the last three images in the 'recent images in this thread' in the sidebar, classic. Just what I needed to raise my slightly dejected spirits following a setback with my desktop rig :)

OK, tried the balanced cables in the Auralic stack - PHEW! My reference tracks now sounding like they should to my ears. Interestingly, switching between RCA and the balanced there is a difference, but not as profound as my listening the other night would have suggested. I think something hinky must have been going on the other night on the PC audio front...

I do have an additional problem though, in my DAC-off the very brief impressions I have of the PWD2 today suggest it is better sounding than the Vega, which wars with my aesthetic OCD which demands I choose the Vega. Just waiting for the Vega to warm back up to allowing the exact mode before I draw any particular conclusions there though.
