Formerly, some moons back, when I was looking closely at the P5 & P10, the remote app really caught my eye!

Also what volume control sounds better to use . The volume on the dac or the krell amp ?

I've been using it in the preamp bypass mode. I'll try the preamp later and get back to you.
I was told by the dealer to give the mAMPs at least 48 hours of burn in before listening to them. Then another two weeks before they will sound like the ones I auditioned.

Just bought a used pair of HE6. I will soon find out just how much improvement these HP from my HE500.
I read some said that they're a significant upgrade from HE500 and some said they like their HE500 more.
Will use them with the same set up that I used with HE500 so that the comparison will be fair.
I'll post my opinion soon

Not really... Some of my best amps for HE-500 were only okay with HE-6. HE-6 needs a little more treatment to get the potential out of it. In many cases you won't get that out of a HE-500 rig.

Yep, this.

If the HE-6 isn't a very clear level above the HE-500 on your gear then are you not driving it sufficiently.

I should be getting my HE6 this week. It will be the second time i've purchased them. This time I ordered them hard wired with the Zeus 22 cable. I also ordered the Audeze non-leather pads. I will be driving them with my Master 9. The first time I had them, I used a Ray Samuels Darkstar. I've already heard the M9/HE6 combination and it sounded great.

The He-6 is def. a serious upgrade over the 500 in terms of clarity, separation and neutrality, no arguing that. I own both and keep both. For certain types of music/recordings I prefer the 500 more because its drawbacks (warmer signature, slightly emphasized midrange, not as clear) then turn into advantages (imo, ymmv etc). Examples would be old jazz/blues recordings, small classical ensembles. And if you shift locations it requires lugging along less and lighter gear, not an insignificant factor in my case.

Am on holiday in Tokyo now and just about to visit the akihabara area now, have my HE-6 with me and am going to try various dac/amp combos with it, as well as a couple of Stax setups, unbelievable, the stuff they have out for auditioning here, one of thestores has a floorwith nothing but Mcintosh products. And if you're a cable believer with money to burn, you could make this place into your pyre. Even for diy'ers there are so many choices it would be hard to cover them all in a single day.

Wish I could hang out in Aki with HE-6 in tow... I'd be dangerous! :normal_smile :

So am in the process of burning in the HE 6 on a Meier Classic, waiting for my Robinnette box to arrive so I can try it with couple of speaker amps I have. It sounds ok on the Meier, pretty listenable, highs are smooth, bass has reasonable presence (quite neutral bass), but doesn't sound like a TOTL HP.

Plugged it into WA22 just for kicks, Wow. Didn't expect this ! Bass has a solid 3D thump, Soundstage increased, highs have more air, extension. NOW it sounds like a TOTL HP. I am using an Audio GD NFB 7 dac (balanced) with WE 422A +TS 5998 + TS 6SN7 & the general consensus is  a good Speaker amp will further improve sound. Hehehe... :veryevil: Can't wait.

Edit:

Forgot to add...I listen to 70% EDM & 30% Rock (some pop/vocal). I started listening to HE 6 + WA22 with some EDM , then at 11.45 pm I made the mistake of switching to Rock / Vocal music just to test couple of tracks  & the plan was to retire to bed by 12. I queued in "On Every Street" , I had goose bumps after 2 mins, Mark Knopfler's voice never sounded like this before. So started queueing in all my fav vocalists - Nora Jones, Dido, Annie Lenox, Otis Redding, Don Henely , Texas etc. This is the best HP I have heard for vocals, so natural, intimate.... I went to bed with bloodshot eyes at 1.30 am but with a happy grin on my face.
