Brilliant, yeah? yes.gif When it comes to HE-6 adventures, I really like The Treacherous Two.

I'd be open to hearing a "Heater" myself... while it's still cold in Los Angeles.

Hehe, it might just have to go on a trip 'round the USA then  It might not even make it all the way around knowing how awesome the Pass amps are lol!

Well I think I'm learning how much I like these. I'm starting to get HE-6 withdrawal. My solid core silver cable broke about a week ago and it's currently getting fixed and the copper one that I had a head-fier make won't ship until Monday so I'll be going on 2 weeks without these. I'm still loving my HD650s but I wish I had the HE-6 functioning as well.

I remember the very first time. A fellow HE-6 owner and outstanding head-fi'er loaned me his cans. To see how well the HiFiMAN handled vocals, I selected a track by Al Jarreau - Golden Girl.

The moment Jarreau and his backup singers began to express their way through the song, I thought I was gonna melt like chocolate left in the hot sun at a July picnic!

After returning the cans, it literally took an entire week to readjust hearing vocals on my beloved D7000. A transition I can only describe as ruff & stuff! :normal_smile :

I was happy to share! I was pretty excited when you told me your own HE-6 was on the way home.

There are several posts quoting Ray Samuels Intruder should be able to drive the HE-6 but I cant find anything concrete.

I was wondering if anyone has experience if it is possible......Thanks.

will do .  thanks

I don't know the intruder but what I absolutely hate is that it''s clearly claimed that it can do so on the site, yet he just mentions 'specs will follow' and that;' s been there for as long as I can remember.  How hard can it be to publish those (supposedly measured while developing) specs.

He also mentions a battery that needs to be charged...and a +21 dB gain setting....  Wonder what type of battery that is or if it's there for other purposes than actually driving the amp itself and if it needs to be plugged into the mains.

Also:  'You will always listen to a balanced sound if balanced output connector is used, even if your input signal is Single Ended.'

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that only possible with some topologies and even then, iirc it can't take full advantage of a 'fully balanced' chain in terms of noise suppression?  But I'm not sure about the last thing so I'll gladly take back my words if someone can correct me here.

Anyway, I like specs.  Not that those tell everything but at least they provide some objective starting point.

It can't. I had it, achieves adequate volume, absolutely does NOT drive the HE-6 well.

I am hoping to get a demo somewhere. I had a feeling it may he the case that it works just not to full potential. Thanks for everyone's help.
Definitely try and get a demo, adequate volume, even if not well driven, may be a compromise you're willing to make for portable use.

It's more if a stop gap while I look at headphone amps. But currently only have portable system at home plus hd650. Looking for a new sound.

......I think some demo time is coming. smily_headphones1.gif

It's possible for all balance design, as long as you put a phase inverter in your amp. But yes, that kinda defeats any advantage that balance can possibly bring (using SE signal -> inverter -> balance amp).
