Check this out.

Is that you Al?

Ah ha..  Making big moves over there.  You have to get the Duelund VSF Black Cast Capacitors installed, it's a must.  Did you get it from Greed or from Darren?

Greed's. How much are those gonna run me?

@Craig - I would wait for the SE upgrade to come out. That will be a much better upgrade for the buck IMO. The Blackgates are some of the best caps money can buy. The Duelands are nice but I was hard pressed to hear the difference in the Lampi myself.

Duelands nice but?  Ha ha..  It seems the Duelands are the best caps going right now.  This is just what I've been reading http://www.humblehomemadehifi.com/Cap.html and from the Duelands in the AMR compared to the V-Caps in the Lampi.

Lukis is now recommending the Duelands with his Lampi builds..

I had some AudioNote Caps in my Buffalo III that cost a lot of money.  They was a little to smooth.

Blackgates sound good I'm sure,  They cost a hell of a lot though.

That is what is in the AMR on its way to Craig. I liked the Duelands but don't find them to be an upgrade over the BGs just a different flavor. A little more weight to the sound, more meat on the bones. The BGs are warmer for sure. IMO of course...

Either way, the SE is definitely the way to go. Getting the Dueland cap upgrade is pretty costly I believe for sidegrade improvement. I believe $400+shipping if I remember correctly.

What do you or did you have the Blackgates in?

I've heard/used Blackgates in a few things: my fathers AudioNote 4.1x (Blackgates throughout), Mark Levinson No. 32 (33?), and a BAT Preamp. I believe the Lampi L4 had Duelands and the L5 had Blackgates that I heard here locally.

Thanks for all the advice fellas I appreciate it. I think my next grade will be the OR5, I was stunned by how much improvement it brought to my Lampi and Master 7 DAC's. Can't wait to hear the AMR with it in my setup. Shout out to ALRAINBOW for letting me borrow it the past two weeks.

Bit off-topic here, but has anyone tried playing around with computer power supply rails? I'm having an urge to hook up my lab power supply (linear <1mv ripple) to the 3.3v rails on the motherboard, as that section powers all the really important stuff. Can't be much worse than the switch-mode right? It just needs to be ultra-stable.

Al, is that you and Mr. Brown? You guys have the same hairstyle!

I have thought about getting a linear PSU for my motherboard. Just not sure how it would work...

It'll work like a normal PSU, but it'll cost a crapload of money if you're going to use the PSU for a gaming comp (i7, 780ti blah blah).

I remember reading ppl making PSU for their Caps build and the cheapest LPSU from Paul Hynes is like 500 bucks or so. And that is for the low power CPU, ITX build and no dedicated vga.

Yes dedicated PSUs can get expensive.  However, I'm in the camp that feels it's important enough to invest in order to get "off the grid".  I use a C.A.P.S.  My next purchase is going to be a Black Lightning with three voltage outputs.  I would go with Paul Hynes but the wait is just to long to get it custom built.  I need two 12v outputs - one for the motherboard and one for my storage unit - then 1 5v output for my dedicated SOtM USB card. Just got through talking to Vinnie to have it configured.

Greed has a Paul Hynes for his C.A.P.S.

This is what I'm using stacked - no fans and no switching PSUs - dedicated for music.

PSU upgrades will yield improved sounds , no doubt. Even in the cpu owner supply. But you need to consider how much it will cost and how far you will go. The. Kind of hard drive matters as well as the sata cable. Putting alum foil around the stata cable helps to. There are plenty of threads on improving the CPU ,s we use. On other forums . Pm me and I can lead you to some. For me I use a nas with SS hardrive and it is networked into my dac. No CPU at all just my iPad as a controller .
