HifiMAN HE-6 Planar Magnetic Headphone - Page 782

I can offer some advise. Do not buy it
The reason is dacs change and they get better
But amps not really a good amp ten years ago
Is still a good amp today. But it's not the same with dacs
Another thought is do not get an a DAC with a preamp or vine control
In it or one that can be disabled is fine.
A preamp with an amp is better. Dacs sometimes use
Lesser components in preMps and volume controls

Just some thoughts go separates

^ I agree with Al. With this kind of money, you're much better off buying a known good DAC and separate preamp. However, you can buy a brand new Yulong DA8 for that asking price and still have preamp capabilities, and just get a separate pre when funds allow. Heck, you could even get the soon to be released Yulong D200 for half the price and spring for a pre too :)

Look on the bright side AL..  You learn more this way.  All the mini meets Happy Camper, SoupRNowva and I had.  All the trips to the Audio Stores.  All the let me see for my self kind deals.  Paid off.  I think HC and I learned more than we would have by just asking around - that's for sure.

+1, better to get a separate DAC/amp.

Thanks AL, brunk for your valued suggestion. You have saved me lot of $

will let this go and check for options to have separate dac and good peramp.

Would anyone mind sharing their thoughts on the HE-6 with the M/G stack ? I know the Mjolnir won't drive the HE-6 to their full potential but how do these two pair ? And if anyone could guesstimate percentage wise, how much they think the Mjolnir could drive the HE-6 ?

I ask because I have an opportunity to purchase HE-6 for $1200 new. I had my sights set on LCD2s, purchasing them new for $1145.

Given how close the pricing is between the two and that the HE-6 are supposed to be far better, would they not be the better buy ?

HE-6 paired with MJ has a very small sweet spot, around 10-11 o'clock on the dial. However, it still isn't close to their full potential. I am inclined to say go for it anyways because it's way better than LCD-2. You can swap to a different amp down the road...

Even with the excellent synergy of LCD-2 + MJ, you're better off with the HE-6. Drivers always trump everything else in the chain.

Well the Bantam Gold came in a couple of days ago and my ears are finally recovering from a cold that I had. I'm in audio nirvana right now

I'm curious to hear more impressions of the Bantam. I've read about them, but hardly ever see mention of them on here.

I'll try to write up a review this weekend but keep in mind it's my only experience with a headphone of the HE-6's quality and my only experience with the HE-6 on a speaker amp so it's going to be positive by default basically. Basically the bantam sounds dead neutral to my ears but yet extremely musical with the HE-6. I actually tried using my project Ember as a pre and preferred it without the tubes in the chain which is weird for me because I've sold the last 2 solid state amps that I've owned.

Somebody said, HE-6 has bass that you would die for……I am dying now….please I do not need doctor…I am liking it :)

I've listened to the HE-6 with the MJ and I was utterly disappointed. Truly, 5W into 50 Ohms is definitely insufficient to tame the cans. Something like a SX-1250/1280 would truly do it justice. Bass to die for is EXACTLY what i heard with that pairing.
