HifiMAN HE-6 Planar Magnetic Headphone - Page 772

Does anyone know if Hifiman is planning on replacing the HE-6 with a new model in the near future? We know that two new headphones 400i & 560 are coming out soon, but will there be another model to replace the flagship soon? After hearing all that praise for these wonderful phones, i am sooo tempted to join the club but i just wish they were a tiny bit more efficient and easier to drive... And maybe the future replacement model will deliver this?

If you look closely at the new model's specs, they are barely more efficient.

I would not expect the replacement to be much more efficient.

Speaker amps generally make all headphones sound better anyway. Think of it as a good thing.

Well I just got my set of HE-6 in today. These sound absolutely insane.

Meh... Cost of admission, as far as I'm concerned.

HE-6 is not just another headphone.  Its a commitment!

The new model coming out is less money and its called the HE560 and priced at 899.00 so not sure if they are thinking of replacing with a higher model . They only showed two new models at the CES,

Un-plated copper?  Why?  I'd rather have gold plate so they don't corrode....  Better connections long term.  Connex has a fairly decent selection, from budget up to a bit more.

The new models save on material costs by using a 1-sided magnet structure like the Abyss, the surprise for me will be to see if the new HifiMan cans will feature a truly isodynamic field design (which  the Abyss doesn't).  If they do, hat off to them but the challenges are huge.  Hell, I'm curious to hear about their sound anyway but the pricing seems to indicate that the newe top model isn't positioned as a flagship.  Regardless, I'm happy with my HE-6 and HE-500 and if one more set of cans enters the house and takes up space then my wife will pack her bags.  If I were you I'd take an aspirin to control the acquisition fever and sit tight for a while until some real auditioning reports come in (I'm talking here about regular users' reports, not the usual glowing drivel from the magazines that are bought and paid for).

+1. And I believe it would be quite hard to surpass the sound the HE-6 posses, the only changes that would take place would probably be cosmetic changes if indeed a new flagship is to be released, maybe a better fit and/or lighter?

That is great news Frank.

Any plans of making a HE-6 equivalent to flagship that are more sensitive.  I always wanted to get a pair of HE-6s to replace my D7000s - because I already invested so much in my amps to drive regular headphone sensitivities, I never did get around to it.

Sell your regular amps. Commit and you won't need another headphone. Actually, it will save you on the long run!

Do you guys mod to hardwire the cables or any other solutions?

I believe that's very common, the connectors getting loose. I've never had this problem, maybe that's odd.
