Physically, build quality, reliability. In fairness to his 6s, no other headphone invites you to consider speaker amps that shows what they can do. There would be far less mention about the QC if they played well with headphone amps. evil_smiley.gif

From an early impression from someone I trust, the 560 doesn't dethrone the HE-6 - although refining the current HE-500 (i.e sounding better). The comfort factor alone is enough for me to buy ASAP.

For me nothing beats the He-6 for metal. The only exceptions is Stax for Death Metal :D

As long as Hifiman can produce a better driver, I'm sure it is definitely possible. With the cheap hacks/mods I've done to my HE-6, it's already so much better than stock.

Matter of taste I think. Guess I'm one of the few who loves the stock He-6 sound (with velour). I don't think Hifiman has reached the ceiling with planars yet - but to completely outshine the He-6 (something like Hd600 to Hd800 or 407 to 009) would be quite an engineering feat (and worthy of a purchase)

On the topic of the 560, bah I still remember when people say the He-500 is an "improved/better He-6" :D

My mods have not changed the flavor of the HE-6, they have simply enhanced them.

Simply wishful thinking, borderline delusional.

They sent me a brand new pair (no accessories, just the headphone with some pleathers)

Very happy with their service and support, listening to the HE-6 straight out of the GS-X mk2, i forgot how good these headphones sound, maybe this pair sounds better than my old pair too, the mids don't seem recessed like on the old pair.

The Lcd3 pad? - I've always wanted to try them and the 007 pad too - but simply forgot the thought (that and the price of the pads).

+1

i don't think it will be an HE-6 killer.

haven't heard any impressions yet btw, haven't been really keeping up with the 560 thread.

Never thought any of the hE-6s I've heard had recessed mids.  There not forward but more in line with the FR.  Not a U shape or no midrange hump that I can tell.  The good thing about my setup now is my amp is so revealing and my DAC has a slightly forwards mids give the HE-6s those slightly forwards mids I like.

this HE-6 sounds kinda forward to me, although i guess the old HE-6 i had was also kinda forward in some part of the upper midrange/lower treble.

great for rock music, similar to beyerdynamic T1

New HiFiMan headphone.  Seems to be positioned between HE-500 and HE-6.
