HifiMAN HE-6 Planar Magnetic Headphone - Page 743

I tried the quads. Remarkable headphones
They are just quad speakers on your head
But the look is tooo much even for me
And the sound is great with simple music
But goes really bad with complex music.

And the abyess I have not heard but after hearing the he 6
I do not think it could triple the price better either

Yea, just about anything beyond $2k in the headphone world is going to have strong ownership bias behind it to justify the cost. Granted, I haven't heard them either, but at $5k I would expect something other than an ergonomic nightmare, and all the snake oil cabling price justification included in it...geez

What silence said - Copy.JPG

The listening room has gone dark - 7 day hiatus. Only 3 days in and I'm gettin' kinda :tongue_smile:wobbly. May the Goddess of Copper grant me strength! My ears are slowly clearing but still suspect.

Just pulled the trigger on a pair of HE-6 which should arrive within a day or two.  What are these mods I should consider and is there anyone who can perform these mods for me in a professional style or are they that easy that I wouldn't risk f'ing up the headphones? With this talk about the successor I am wondering if I pulled the trigger too early?  When will this successor come out?

Consider enjoying them stock for a while , get to know the headphones first. Learn there week ness that's what the mods fix , but at a lost to something else. I'm happy for great headphones. Enjoy

It doesn't seem a successor will come out soon as we think. It appears Hifiman is putting out lower end models with updates to pick up revenue (that price range is his best-seller). Your guess is as good as mine when a new flagship comes out. Either way, you have made a very good purchase. The HE-6 stands with the best headphones in the world.

I planned to drive them with my HeadRoom Ultra Desktop Amp (which is the DAC/Amp combo not the dedicated amp only).  Will this have sufficient power? I heard mention of the HeadRoom Amp being good enough but wasn't sure if they meant the dedicated amp only or the DAC/Amp.

Not sure , but ask here someone might know. What are the specs ?

says 10Vrms and I have the Astrodync power supply which I don't see a spec on but the upgrade power supply says 500mA so I am guessing around 3-4 watts using the Astrodyn but no idea for sure.

With +/- 15 VDC at 500 mA at the input, I doubt it will do 10 VRMS into 50 ohms (14 V peak).  That's not much rail headroom for a Class A amp!  10 VRMS into 50 ohms will give you 2 RMS watts.  It will be plenty to give you a taste of what the HE-6 has to offer, but you should head over the the "speaker amps for headphones" thread and investigate...
