1) Any benefit of the UPA-200 over the A-100?

2) Are there any better speaker amps to drive the HE-6 with that are about $500 or below than the Emotiva?

3) Any different dac selection? I want tubes to be involved somewhere in the chain or at the very least something a bit on the warmer end

Yes there are benefits the UPA-200 / XPA-200 has over the a-100.  First it's fully discrete and dual differential, where the a-100 is not.  One of the main reasons to go with the a-100 is it already has a volume control.  With the UPA-200 you would need a pre amp of some kind.  Othere than that as you go up in the Emo line the better the amps get.

Brunk or SWA can build you a pre amp if you DAC doesn't have one.

This is a great place to "start".  This will allow you to put more money in a better DAC.  The D2 is also a good start. However, if you can spend a bit more maybe look into the MHDT line of DACs - If you want to keep tubes in the chain.  http://dhost.info/mhdtlab/mhdt%20dac%20families.htm  This will be a step up from the D2

BTG audio is also a great place to get your cable made.  I would ask about hardwiring.  I'm big on that.

Run time.:

With a total of 343 hours, I'm burning up the listening room with the :ksc75smile:HE-6. I have 500 hours dead ahead! Okay, so maybe not an astronomical number but we're :rolleyes:emerging.... 31 January looks doable!

I agree with Darryl. He always has great advice :) I can build you an amp (i have a slot open for a FirstWatt F5), a preamp, and I can hardwire the HE-6 for you. I even have a BTG Sunset cable available that is heavily discounted right now :) Send a PM if you're interested in any of those options. I am Head-Fi's resident DIY slave

So modern slavery is not a myth?  Good to know

Speaking of hardwiring... What is Dr. Bian's response to mods, should a repair requirement come up?

So you liking that Star Quad cable better than the HiFiMan stock cable?  Ever looked at installing mini XLR's on the -6 ?

Yes, I personally like it better. It has absolutely zero microphonics, and is quite rugged. Lol, if you guys want me to charge more, I am more than happy to oblige  Keep in mind that I am not doing this as a business, but as a hobby and a favor to those who can't/don't wish to build it themselves. If i see someone attempting to "flip" what I build solely for profit, then that person will be on my "Bad Buyer List".

I haven't looked at installing mini-XLR's on my HE-6 because I don't see a benefit for my purposes.

Cheers,

Brunk

I had Robert from AphroditeCu29 hardwire mini xlr pigtail on my HE6. Much better than the standard connectors. I have mention it to Doctor Bian several times but he has not taken my suggestion to switch to the mini xlr.

It's too bad he's not receptive to your suggestion. I bet that if he switched over, he would save alot of money and time due to faulty cables. Twisting those things on are horrible, and I have had a bad cable shipped with my HE-6 each time I bought one (2x in a row).

I broke my stock cable. Thank goodness for high-end aftermarket cables.

Temptation.:

Before I get my HiFiMANs hard-wired, I'd like to hear my Wireworld Silver Eclipse 7 headphone cable on a D7000 and off the speaker taps of my G-22000.
